  • Thank you so much @Looper!

Another question: what defines a legacy stallion? I've noticed some are the first expro/experf on the server, and then some have upwards of 200 foals while others have less than 150. Is there one defining characteristic?

  • If there is a budy chat I would love to put my dark sun rises and invested sons up for breeding in it
All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

  • What makes a legacy stallion?

    1) something special—quality or genes
    2) widely available for breeding to people other than the owner. Either public breeding or straws, or in the case of some of the really old guys, they’re widely present in prestigious pedigrees for “modern” breeders. In the case of the special milestone stallions from Ammit, everyone got a single straw.
    3) “stamped their get” some sort of distinctive look that means you can often identify offspring at a glance, or they are suited to breeding into specific lines for specific traits.
    4) while they were widely available for breeding, the quality of the offspring has remained high, and therefore still desirable.

Just my own two cents, would be interested to hear what others think.

Certainly looking at the list above I know I still have straws from a fair few of those stallions in my freezer or had offspring from them at some point in my herd.

  • I dream of someday seeing one of my boys get considered a legacy.

I second Cheers on what helps define them.
    Dabbler in EVERYTHING.
  • Just a sidebar, but if the Nathaniel on the list was the one I owned (PFR HG Nathaniel), I have quite a few straws left from him. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM so as not to hijack the conversation.

Is one of my boys actually considered a legacy stallion now? :-O If so, I feel privileged! :x

  • @BlueValley he's one of my favorite Snowflake contributers :)

@CeffylDwr I knew something was bothering me when I was updating the list and when I saw your comment. Tyger's been in my line for a bit now. I missed him in updating the list because my eyes were crossing late in the night. :) Zigen and Wakanda are heading into the mix next season because they're fab! Your boys are in my project. :)

Agree with @Cheers and would like to add it's also about your experience with the game. Who do you remember when you see those horses in the line and why? A legacy is a memory, left behind and passed on. It's everyone who has helped you or taught you something about why this game is here or events that happened in the course of your play or life while playing at the time you recognized it. Also which horses are just sheer beautiful and remarkable to you?
Not everyone's set of Legacy horses, stud or dame, will be or should be the same. :)
  • Don't mind my screaming in the corner, that made my day!

  • @Looper Ahhh that makes me so happy! *happy dances* Let me know if you need straws/eggs from any of their lines or my other lines
    Dabbler in EVERYTHING.
  • Yes sadly on my boys, although one was one of the first expros, and in lots of old pedigrees, I had the bad luck that someone used him and stood an average son to the public, where he was used heaps but mostly poor quality stock used so doesn't really make any legacy list. Personally I haven't heard of probably at least half in the first Legacy list, some of what I'd consider Legacy stallions are in the lists though. For me it would be those very early exp pro/perfect stallions that were widely used, then all the ones Ammit made available for special occasions. Then some of the ones with rare genes (at the time) which made it special to have a foal from them. Most of the rest listed I just see as horses that had a lot of foals. Plus the relatively newer breeders would see much newer stallions as Legacy simply because they were the first ones they knew. Plus Legacy stallions are going to be different for many people, it will be those stallions that influenced your early breeding, it's awesome to remember them, but also I think I think it makes it hard to have a generic Legacy tattoo
  • I think i'd consider legacy stallions as studs that were highly influential to your breeding program. I, personally, have very little outside blood except in my Era 0 bootstrap herd, so almost none of the listed stallions would be legacy's in my herds. My personal legacy studs would be mostly my own special foundations, like King Louie, Superbia and In Memoriam.

  • I agree more with Cheers' definition. To me, a legacy stallions can be narrowed down to two elements: 1.) They carried (or carry) special genes--often when those genes were new and expensive or otherwise hard to access. 2.) Their genetics were shared with other players for enhancing or bringing a new element into their own lines.

  • Are KitM and Pearl considered 'Special" genes?
  • If you want them to be for your legacy line. I was just looking at my gen 4s and I have a lot of outside stock at foundation level so I can see who's barns I've been stalking over the years. I should make a list of who qualifies in my barns.
