I'm pretty sure you need a premium upgrade :( I ran in to that issue when I still had the basic one. If you want to do the math, you can add up all the foals PT and divide by the number of foals…

There is no rare or better in this game. Breed what you enjoy. You don't make much money selling/breeding horses, so don't worry about what other people think. Just breed quality :).
