A pixel is (from what I understand) a little square on a screen that will show a colour. Coupled with other pixels, it'll make a shape. TVs and Computers use this method on their screens. Which is why virtual horses can be called pixel ponies, because they're "made up" of pixels.

Or at least they used to use this method....I don't actually know if this is still used! I can remember as a kid though, getting really really close to the tv and being able to see the little squares of pixels.

I think most of them still do. The technology is just getting better to make them smaller and smaller. So more can be fit into a small space. It makes for a higher quality picture. A couple years ago if you had a 1920 * 1080 pixels in a single square inch it is really nice. I think the new thing is "4K". But I think there is alternative technologies now.

Yes, all screens use pixels.
