Opinions on this stud?
-
I want to hear your opinion of this stud. Hes A papered, Consistent with a PT of 10.4. Would you breed to him of he was what you're looking for? Why or why not? And Go!
DU Grulla Shimmer -
I like him but I am a bit biased! ;)
-
Me too @PaintedDreams hes in my pasture right now, he has 3 girlfriends waiting until the 5th. :))
-
I would give him some 3g and 4g girls, compare foal quality and intact ratios and go from there. He is A quality. ;)All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.
-
I dont have any 3g or 4g girls, all of mine are foundation with the exception of one 2g mare who's only 2. (The g does stand for generation right? Lol)
-
Unless I were looking just to produce show horses, I probably wouldn't breed him at all. I'd geld him and put him in my show string. There's a whole lot of unevenness in his pedigree, not just in terms of generations, but more importantly, in terms of breeding ability.
The top line of his sire's side goes back 5 generations on the sire's side, with a couple of generations where B stallions were bred to Yellow mares.
On the dam's side, once again, there are two B stallions bred to Yellow mares, and his sire is A papered while his dam is only B.
Unless you can breed him to Blue papered mares, the line will continue to be essentially stalled, with little increase in quality as it is continued.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

If you can't afford to keep him just as a show pony he would be welcome to come home to me. That degree of unevenness from my lines isn't something I would want you to perpetuate...
-
I wouldn't use him on foundation, and really, he would have to be a lower A boy than I'd hope he'd be to have luck with 2g. He is too good, as the other gals said, his foals will all likely get snipped by breeding advice so you would get show ponies at this point. If he was the right quality to work well with mares' qualities but still push for higher quality foals I would go for it, though there are prejudices against uneven pedigrees on this game,so you would have difficulty selling his descendants as breeding stock. I tend to look more at wether stallion would help my breeding program and quality than evenness, but it would not help you to breed this boy to foundation mares. All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

Thanks guys, I'm not an upgraded member so I can't snip him. It won't bother me if his foals turn out as show ponies ( I need the bonus) if anything he'll stick around as my own personal stud until I can get better mares (and maybe an upgrade)
-
You don't need an upgrade to snip (or I don't think so anyway). If you're after a foundation stallion for breeding purposes then check out ID 13 for some perfect foundation quality studs :) You're more likely to get intact foals using a foundation stallion with foundation mares.
But I'd hold onto him for some show babies!

Thanks @Kalilm I've actually been to the Foundation Rescue, but I currently dont have the hb's (I only have 574) I've been saving for breeding season.

Ugh. Now members are wanting even ability in pedigrees too! You guys are driving me nuts with this stuff! It completly misses the point. :pNeed to contact me? Read this first. @Ammit I personally dont mind whether they're even or not. I didn't even know that a horse could be uneven until just a few days ago. If all I get is uneven show ponies, then all I get is uneven show ponies (I need the show bonus :)) )
-
It takes a greater grasp on how everything works to be successful with uneven horses, I spent a lot of time experimenting and puzzling things out and have gotten to the point where I feel really comfortable with uneven horses. Many players don't bother with that and go straight to getting good crops of even foals. If you have any questions about how to evaluate and use uneven breeders let me know. Maybe all the chaos I went through can help someone. ;)All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

The idea that 3rd or 4th gen foals will get you more intact foals from this stallions is wrong and unhelpful to a new member. We should be striving to teach understanding and critical thinking about a stallion's use. It also would not add any real worthwhile value to what intact foals it would get. He is not a high value stud and will never produce high value foals. Holding him to crazy high line standards is nuts, and again is unhelpful because it teaches the new player nothing about how the game works.
TomCat needs show horses. This is the perfect stud to breed to foundations to get show horses. Ignoring what a stallion is needed for makes the advice harmful.Need to contact me? Read this first. I really appreciate all of the great advice. @WildlandAcres I'll keep that in mind, I joined to have fun and if I make a fortune I make a fortune. I love the art and the colors and how relaxed the game is versus other games where you have to play daily and take care of your horses or they die. Its definitely a change for me and any advice is very welcome.
