Merle Gene Beta Test - Very Limited Offer - Now Closed
  • image

For the past several months I have been working on bringing merle to the game. This gene is an allele (different mutation) of the silver gene. Like silver it dilutes black pigment and will not show on ee horses.**

This gene is so complex that for the first time I am doing a beta test on a gene. I need to see hundreds of color combos to make sure this is working right. Merle for sale for a very limited time and once I get enough buyers I will be shutting off merle sales. There will be no warning on the shut off.

If you choose to purchase during this beta test please understand the following before purchasing:
-Expect there to be bugs. It's extremely likely that issues will come up, and you will just need to report them be chill about it.
-Expect markings to change. There is a high change I will need to make some tweaks to generation which will change the markings on your merle horses. Don't get too attached to any markings this month.
-Expect not to fully understand whats going on. A deep in-depth guide to merle is coming, but it's a few weeks out. I won't be able to give you deep explanations for this beta.

    Key Info
-All merle genes will have a number, written Mrl(#). The number is the SINE length. Bigger number = more dangerous.
-Merle does not care about being homozygous or not. Combined SINE numbers under 80 are safe. Over 80 and you start getting health problems. Too high and the foal dies.
-You can max ability a merle foal with health problems to get a health foal.
-Silver can be dangerous combined with higher SINE numbers. Mix at your own risk.
-All new merle creates will have a SINE length between 55 and 68. This is the classic merle pattern.
-SINE lengths are unstable. They will spontaneously shorten or length during breeding.
-SINE lengths can not be editing in the GMT lab and will never change via GMT lab edits.
-If you can breed SINE numbers small enough you can get healthy homozygous merles.
-Very small SINE numbers stop showing as merle all together.

**While the merle pattern won't be seen on ee horses it can still cause blue eyes on all colors. As merle reaches dangerous lengths it can also turn off all pigment resulting in white areas.

Merle is available for 38 USD until I sell enough for the beta test. It will be available for everyone in October.

  • Exciting! Does it just require one copy to show?

*Edit - can see now that you've said it doesn't care about being homozygous!

I just created this stallion. I'd love to buy an egg or 2 from someone that puts it on a mare. Also happy to trade straws for eggs.

  • I'm so excited for this. I can't wait to see how it plays out.

    Here's my guy:

He still needs a few tweaks, but once he's finished, I'd love to trade straws with anyone else that's getting merle. Chaos will be Platinum Brown Merle and Chocolate Brown Merle once finished.

  • I took the risk with this guy and added silver even though his SINE number is 68. So we'll see how this pans out. Super cool gene addition! Thanks Ammit :)

  • I'm not sure why adding a cream gene caused all this white to appear. Does cream interact with merle?

I'm also happy to trade straws.

  • It's from silver not cream. Remove the silver if you want less white.

  • But he didn't have the white before I added the cream and he had the silver gene then?

    P.s. not complaining, just interested!
  • Then it was an out of date image. It is 100% not from cream. The cream just updated the image.

  • Ah ok. I added S+ and merle through RGS and did think he didn’t look very merle-y! Thanks for explaining.
  • If you do a number of edits right in a row the earlier edits will kick the later edits out of the queue.

  • So I decided to take off the silver and did a couple of rerolls. I thought this was an interesting pattern

My lovely new Merle stud! I wanted a copy while it was available so I could see how it changes along the way!

  • I got my first batch of foals. Out of 12, five inherited Merle. I got SINE lengths of 53 to 77, which I'll show below.

    image
    2 Chaos 13618005

Even being light colored and roan, I can still see the pattern on this guy. He is the 77.

    image
    2 Chaos 13618006

This girl is the 53, but also has Silver. I'm hoping to be towards healthy hom merle, so I think this girl is definitely a step in that direction.
    #28036
  • Lovely foals. Its nice to see that you don't need the SINE length to reduce much to be able to have silver and keep the base pigment.
  • I bred 20 this morning. 13/20 had merle naturally (I may GMT/or may not others) all mares used did not have merle. 1 mare was het. Z. My stallion with merle is EE, so no red babies. The merle doesn't seem to show as well on the E-A- foals that I bred, I think thats intentional with the other dilutes they have.

I had a range of 50-72 (My stallion was 58, so I honestly expected lower than 50.

UPDATE: I did modify 1 and got a 48. He has no darker patches but does a have tweed.

The 2 silver foals were both 59s.

My 50 does have a handful of teeny little darker splotches.

This little filly is my favorite:

Questions for Ammit: How low can the number go? I would assume based on my 50 (not that I've rerolled that foal) that anything lower than 50 is going to be cryptic?

  • How low can the SINE go? Very. Much lower than 50.

I plan to clone a few more times, but plan to keep this one a mare. I'd love to buy some straws from anyone. Can swap when my future stallion(s) comes of age or eggs.
    Thanked by 1deltaghoulette
  • @TripleGRanch I’d love to buy 2 eggs?
    | #59142 | Spotted | Reiner | Chocolatey | Enchanting | Stygien | Lunara |
  • @TripleGRanch I'd also love to trade eggs for straws, if you have the platinum license (my guy is platinum).

In fact, if anyone else wants to swap, shoot me a message or just send straws over. I'll send back however many you send me.
    #28036
  • Wow! How beautiful, thank you Ammit for this great gene. I will be saving up for this one for sure
    Thanked by 1Ammit
  • @TripleGRanch I'd love to trade eggs for straws as well! My stud does have Platinum and Phantom Sun Runes, if you have the licensing.

  • This is my boy, I'd love to trade straws! He's pretty simple as I'd run out of gmts lol! I've got some really cool looking foals though. I tried him with a few different colours just to see what I could get. I still love the silver merle best I think, that had the lower sine length of 50. Looks cool with WC too though, so might need more of them!
