Is it really more fair? Only players with large budgets would be able to get 15+ horses with how it's currently set up.

Since there is some bad information about why the change happened I post the original announcement here. I can break down the exact odds when I get back.

The post I linked goes into depth about why the change was made. The long and short of it though is that cloning was mandatory to win the PT category on the era boards. Cloning is a premium feature which means that only premium members could ever win on the era leaderboards. That is the unfairness that was fixed. Cloning was also rebalanced so that it was one of a number of ways to win on the limited and primary era leaderboards instead of the ONLY way to win on the boards. (It was this or ban clones there.)

Re: people being disappointed. I am always happy to listen to feedback about changes, as long as it is given constructively. It is never my intention to make the game less fun for a certain group of players though obviously that does happen sometimes. The problem arises when people are unhappy in silence and refuse to give any feedback. I can't respond when people don't let me know their needs.



Let's go over the specific odds. None of these numbers include inconsistency which also swings up or down independently of training ability. You can change that in the GMT lab so it's not as vital.

Before the update: All cloned foals could have a raw training ability that was identical, .3 down or .3 points up from the original foals. There was a flat 1 in 7 chance to get any result from -.3 to +.3 PT score. (again not factoring in inconsistency)

Since 15 was the highest double-boosted parents could produce you could get .3 above that from cloning to hit 15.3.

After the Update: Cloning now works different ways for horses at cap and horses below cap.

In order to make the primary and limited era clubs function properly cloning a horse that is below cap results in a foal that has a -.5 to 0 PT change. This is a flat 1 in 6 chance. This adds enough of a handicap on cloned foals that they can't be used to dominate those leaderboards but has no impact on breeding the clones, and no statistical impact on showing them.


Now let's get to cap quality lines which are the ones that apply to your program. The change I made above would make it impossible to get an over 15 pt foal. I knew that many breeders loved cloning to get those 15.1+ foals so I made an absolute point to not only keep them in the game but give you an even greater goal to strive for.

If you clone a cap-quality horse instead of a -.5 to 0 training ability on the clone you get -.5 to +.5. While you can get foals .2 worse than before I added the chance to get +.2 higher than before to offset that. Like before it is flat odds. You are just as likely to get a 14.5 as you are to get a 15.5 when you clone a 15 pt horse. It's 1 in 11 odds to get any of the possible results.

15.5's are the rarest because you need a perfect 15 pt foal to start with and then you need to hit that 1 in 11 chance and then you have to have the perfect consistency. Most people just don't care enough to make all those things happen but I can guarantee it's flat 1 in 11 odds. I just use a rand(-5,5) in my code to decide the swing.

So to sum up the purpose was to make sure everyone had fair access to the era LBs, even if they could not afford to spend real cash on the game. The additional change to cap horses was made to make sure players like you could still get your 15.+ PT horses and to expand what you could get even more since I know people love getting those higher PTs. The change was made with the aim of making things better for PT chasers not worse.

I thought the ability to get even higher PTs would be something players like you would be excited about and like. Can you explain to me why it's impossible to play how you did before? If I understand what is causing the issues I can see what I can do.

I will spin up a test horse and do a bunch of cloning to show the odds in a more scientific way than the search can.

Thank you! I definitely feel better about it now. I'm excited to see how the corrected numbers play out for everyone the remainder of the month and next month. Two of us were definitely thinking the numbers weren't even odds, so I'm glad to know they should be and its be fixed.

Hopefully, if anyone else has something to mention they'll chime in this thread.

This was a great explanation. Cloning and cap horses are still a little out of my knowledge base. I had no idea some of these changes came into place. Some of the info went straight over my head.
This is worth keeping for whatever future WiKi we end up with :)

Thanks for saying something. Wish I had more folks who would just let me know if they had concerns. I tend to get silence or full-blown rage, rarely in between. Most issues are solvable with a sensible chat. :)
