Straw expiration
-
Most of my straws don't have a number under the Expiration section, but a few of them do - two say three years, and one says one year. As I understand it, straws expire if the stallion has no living offspring. So if I use a straw and create a living offspring, will that stop the countdown? Or is it not reversible once it starts? I used straws yesterday from all three of those stallions but the expiration numbers are still there. Do I need to go ahead and use them this month (especially the one with the one year expiration)?ID: 16853

I don't think the countdown is reversible. I have some ofh own I need to use upBreeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

The count down is from whomever pulled the straws. The purpose it to make sure the straws are used, instead of one person sitting on 100 straws or whatever number (which impacts the total number of straws that can be pulled).
Example 1- When my stallions get to the age where they cannot have straws pulled I want to pull as many as possible from them, and have a bunch of straws that others are hoarding restricts my ability to pull all the straws. (I'm not this picky about it but this an example of why).
Example 2- The expirations also help encourage futurity foals, as you want to use the straw you paid for before it expires and deletes.
Once a straw is set to expire it cannot be reversed. It will expire, be used, or be deleted (well also a 4 year expiration can be changed to a lower number, but you cannot give the straws more time).
If your straw says 1 year expiration you should use it this month if you plan to use it, otherwise it will expire and delete at the October rollover.| #59142 | Spotted | Reiner | Chocolatey | Enchanting | Stygien | Lunara | -
Straws will also have a countdown if the horse has no living foals. I have a number of those every year too and theres no reversing those eitherBreeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
