Some thoughts on the LB from a dog show perspective
  • Apologies if this is out of line, but I've been giving this some thought (Summertree will say that's scary and I tend to agree...lol).

I probably wouldn't be eligible for some of this, and that's fine, but wanted to see if it would be a possibility for new(er) players and/or those who do not get to put real money into the game, re the leaderboard.

What about having amateur LBs? I don't have any real thoughts on what "ammy status" would entail, or what would make an ammy move up to the regular LBs, but that would, IMO, give newbies pretty big incentives and perhaps increase engagement?

My other idea was, what if the "highest PT" had a boosted and unboosted category? Those of us whom don't want (or are unable) to boost really will never be able to be competitive on the PT leaderboard.

What about a BBX (bred by exhibitor) category? The horse must be bred by, owned, and shown by the same person to be eligible?

Perhaps an "as is" category for horses w/o any boosts or GMTing?

Maybe clones get their own LB?

Just some ideas running though my exhausted (new puppies=no sleep) yet overthinking brain.

    :)

  • I like a lot of these!

One thing I threw out there a while ago was having a limit on PT awards - Like every "competitor" can only have 2 foals on the board each season. Some of the boards are entirely one player, so limiting that would allow more players a chance. But separating the boards could be a productive revision, like you've suggested.

If I remember correctly amateur competition was mentioned, but Ammit said it would be nightmarish to code and not feasible right now. I was thinking maybe a small group of us could run some ammy competitions through the forums? But I have no idea what the structure of that would look like. It'd need to be brainstormed.

  • Yup, there is a limit to what is reasonable to ask me to code and the game to give awards for. A member-created award would be a fantastic idea though. I strongly encourage members to do the work and show me a functional version of their ideas for awards. Far more likely for something to be added if members do the proof of concept. The exact same thing happened with the gift exchange.

I don't feel any need for even more leaderboards so if people want them prove that they are needed, wanted and helpful. :)

  • I think it's important to note too that for more leaderboard changes, time would have to be taken away from things like the breeding lab, search changes, BCs, etc. There's been sooo many additions / improvements lately.

But if anyone wants to start some forum-based stuff I'd be happy to lead or help coordinate! I just don't think one person could do it on their own. It feels like a large undertaking in my head. :-B I'll start a thread on it this week and see if any one is interested.

@ZenCorgi would you be okay with some of your categories being used in a forum-based competition to test them?

  • @Poppidoll of course! And I'd be happy to help, too! Let me know what you'd like me to do. I'm not sure I'm smart enough to coordinate it, but I absolutely will help.
  • The changes to the AI lab were all I needed to be happy. I'm ecstatic with them! Now just hoping for cheaper embryo usage. Also maybe era added to the herd download

But other than that I can see how boosted/unboosted would be near impossible because you'd not only have to look at that horse but all it's ancestors.

And I believe boosts are already limited now. Feels impossible now, but getting a show bonus big enough to boost isn't as impossible as it seems. Also a lot of more established players are happy to do whatever it takes to help newer players with stock

I like the idea of maybe limiting the foals to 2 per player.
Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

  • I've had plenty of unboosted foals at the top of the PT boards. You don't have to boost to do well on the boards, a lot depends on which boards you are trying for. Color boards do basically require you boost, but a lot of the era boards you don't need to.

I think a top new player board based on points earned for the season would be cool and also place a focus on building up a show herd. I think a lot of new players just right into breeding and buying breeding stock then run out of hbs and lose interest.
