Leveling Off
-
So I read this:
Horses will level off at roughly the age of their PT and will basically stop training when they do (they still will add a small fraction of a point to their show score each week, but it’s a negligible gain). Horses that level off at the top of whatever class they are showing in will make lots of hbs and points for you. Horses that level off in last place will not. Horses that level off in the middle of a class will still do nicely for you, but they won’t make the large gains of a horse at the top of their class. Some people will cull horses that level off in last place in their class. Others will stop showing these horses but keep them to keep the show bonus contribution. Some of us never bother to look and keep everything until they age out.
I read the above in a forum post. My question is I have a 9 year old 14.6PT mare and she's training weekly but her score only goes up a 1 point instead o the 14ish I thought she was supposed to gain?| #59142 | Spotted | Reiner | Chocolatey | Enchanting | Stygien | Lunara | -
My understanding is that she will continue to be trainable until she is 14/15yrs old and therefore each week will get marginally better. When she levels off (finishes training) if she has been placing high in the shows, she will continue to gain points and earn money. If not, she will stay at the same points and you may as well sell her off for the lifetime payout as that will not go up a great amount more.
I may be completely wrong here so wait for someone else to either confirm or correct :>
I am also someone who keeps most until they age out regardless of how good they show so I haven't really read deeply into this area.ID - 47350 (Most Licences) Breeding heavy. Carry it Forward Project - Snf, Kp, Dp, Df, Sa and Sb2. Welsh Dreams - Full of fantasies

Alrighty I'll give an explanation a shot. Now I'm not super great at keeping track of how stuff works (adhd is fun) so if I mixed something up feel free to correct me folks!
So as I understand it, basically the PT system lets you know how old the horse will be when they stop making progress. (E.g. a 9.40 foundation will only train until it is 9 years old.) After that point is reached the horse will sit at whatever level of class they have trained to. The more you train and show a horse the more points it will earn, it's just very slow to start. So it is totally possible for a horse with a higher PT score to be at a lower class then a horse with a lower score that has been trained and showed regularly!
This older mare of mine was from a side account that I merged, so she was never really trained or shown when she was younger. She is at a 4W class.

Versus this mare, who has a lower PT score but was trained and shown more is in a higher level class (7W) and has more points.

I hope this helps. :)Id# 51088

So when do the horses stop gaining their PT each week? I assume then it's when they reach the highest level of showing that horse will reach even if they aren't "leveled off".
So does this mean my mare at 8N that is only gaining a point or so per training session, is she going to level off at 8N and not 8W? She's only 9 and is 13PT?| #59142 | Spotted | Reiner | Chocolatey | Enchanting | Stygien | Lunara | -
Yes, once you reach 8W you're at the highest point that you can go.
She should continue gaining until she turns 13, she has another 4 years to level up to 8W. Just keep on showing her and she will most likely reach it!Id# 51088

I've got a question somewhat related to this. If a mare is leveled off, does it do any good to spay her at that point?
-
I never really spay my mares myself, but I believe that you would have to beat the leveling off in order to receive any benefits from it.Id# 51088

@Duven I could be wrong but I think I read that spayed and gelded horses will earn slightly more each week in training. Which they should be earning their PT score each week.| #59142 | Spotted | Reiner | Chocolatey | Enchanting | Stygien | Lunara |

Altered horses get a training bonus. I snip pretty much everything.Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free.Thanked by 1Cottonwoods

If they are leveled off, are they training any more? I've got a leveled off mare lower on a board and am ready to snip her if it would help her chances moving up.

@duven I’m not sure it would help at that point, you can try it| #59142 | Spotted | Reiner | Chocolatey | Enchanting | Stygien | Lunara |

Altering gives a training bonus so altered horses tend to earn more than their unaltered counterpoints.
PT scores tells you for roughly how long a horse will train for, not how many points they gain each week. How consistent a horses is also factors in. Inconsistent horses tend to jump around in how they score while consistent horses tend to earn the same score.
I try to take a look at the number of points my show horses have at 10, if they don't have at least 500 then they are put into the auction, which will buy them for their daily payout once they hit 10. If they are 500 points or more I will keep them, even if they don't show well because a stable's daily payout is based on the total number of points all their horse's have. So even if a horse isn't winning they are still making money. Now if you are tight on space then I would go look at leveled off horses and sell those who aren't placing well and don't have a decent daily payout. -
Thanks for rh replies. Sometimes I think it makes sense a certain way, but it's nice to have a community making sure I understand.

Just to be clear horses to not earn their PT score or increase by their PT score. They train and their showing ability goes up but PT score is static and does not change.Need to contact me? @Ammit I read that horses gain their PT score weekly under the Information for newbies thread.
I'm not trying to argue, I'm just either not undertstanding the post or maybe it needs to be corrected?

PT scores
Performance Inspection, aka Performance Testing (PT)
will give you a general idea about how well and how long your horse will perform in shows. Lower scores do not mean that a horse will be a bad show horse, only that they may not make it to the higher levels of showing, the elite classes like Grand Prix. They can still make you money even in their lower level classes, points are points no matter where they are earned.
PT scores are indicative of how many training points a horse will receive with each training session.
Horses will only receive those training points if they are trained. Members with free accounts need to remember to train every horse ever week.
If you pay to change a horses consistency level in the genetics lab you will need to run the PT test again, since consistency quite often (but not always) affects PT scores.
As soon as a horse is spayed or gelded they begin to earn extra training points with every training session. This gives them the potential to be better show horses, so they earn more show points, which adds to your daily show bonus
You will not see an actual change in the PT score of a spayed or gelded horse. They will, however, earn the extra points.
Remember that PT score has no effect on breeding ability. So a horse with a low PT score COULD make really nice babies.| #59142 | Spotted | Reiner | Chocolatey | Enchanting | Stygien | Lunara | -
@Cottonwoods, I think that this means that the points a horse earns are based on its PT score, but are not necessarily equal to the PT score. In general, a horse with a higher PT score will earn more points per training session (and possibly also win more points in shows? correct me if I'm wrong!), and a horse with a lower PT will earn less. However, gelding/spaying a horse will also affect the points earned during training, but it doesn't affect the PT score itself. So PT is indicative of, but not necessarily equal to, points earned per session.ID 58328Thanked by 1Cottonwoods

Nothing in the game is based on PT score. PT score is a derived score based on several hidden numbers. Those hidden numbers are used for a bunch of other things in the game as well. PT score is just a general indication of showing ability for that horse. It's for your reference only. Nothing in the game except for the PT leaderboards use PT for anything.Need to contact me?
