Create backdrops for the game - win GMTs
-
Rules:
-All backdrop images submitted must be 500 by 500 pixels and saved in .png format.
-All backdrop images must be created by you, using any software, or drawing aids you want. No stock art or photographs, or anything that looks like a photo, please. AI, non-digital, etc are fine as long as the image meets the needed specs.
-There will be a horse standing in front of this. It has to look decent with a horse taking up most of the center of the images.
-The horses need something to stand on. It won't look right if you don't keep that in mind.
Category 1: December at the Showgrounds
-This year's December event theme is "December at the Showgrounds." We are looking for scenes you might see at a show. They might be a decorated areana or the bright Floriday/Arizona circuit, or in the showground barn aisles, or in the jumper ring, or on the cross country course. Anything to do with showing is fair game here. All showing disciplines are fair game.
Category 2: Seasonal Backdrops
-We are also looking to add 500 by 500 backdrops that are specifically December holiday-themed. Could be winter, could be summery December in Australia, could be taller versions of backdrops we already have. Any holiday this time of year is fair game. Just looking to pick up a wide variety of these.
Prizes:
-I will award 10 GMTs for every backdrop I use in the game. I will pick as many winners as backgrounds as I think are a good fit.
-This will run until approximately December 15th
Good luck! I can't wait to see your creations. :x

EDIT
I am seeing a lot of entries with problems so I wanted to make a post clarifying what we need.
The first issue I am seeing is people not following the rules. Make sure your images are 500 by 500 and they MUST be either winter or showground-themed. Also no photos, AI that looks like photos, or photos that have had filters applied. These rules will be strictly enforced.
The next issue I am seeing is people forgetting that the horses need to stand somewhere and need to fit in the scene.
I will use this image that is already in the game and was just upscaled by Cavalynn on bluegrass as an example. The lower 1/3rd of the image is wide open and flat. There is nothing in the foreground and lots of clear areas for the horse to stand in.
A lot of the AI submissions forget that a horse has to fit in this image. Don't have stuff in your foreground that will fight the horse for focus. You are not trying to make a pretty picture. You are trying to make a picture that works for a game horse to be in.
We also have more winter submissions than showground ones by a mile and I mostly need showground ones. If you post more winter entries they are unlikely to win at this point, so better to focus your energy on showing.
Thanks everyone for the entries so far and good luck!

I tried to make some thing usable, I think it would make a nice background. It is based on a Spanish courtyard, please feel free to fix it up if you wish. I posted this already, I felt bad that there was nothing added here yet. I will try to add another one later.

Okay, I may have gotten a little too excited and forgot about the theme... whoopsie lolID# 25784

Threw together some AI prompts cause I truly lack the talent yet (I am practicing though!) for something as involved as backgrounds :P But tried to get some variety nonetheless! I may have gone overboard.

I'll start on December-y ones now lolID# 25784

I was working on some colored pencil drawings…but after seeing these AI creations I think it’s time to give up art entirely! These are beautiful.
-
@BoredCowgirl Please keep working on yours! AI is cool for inspiration and as a proof of concept but it's got plenty of problems, including messing up details, disheartening artists, and stealing their work. There's a reason a lot of artists frown on its usage right now. :)ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! @BoredCowgirl almost none of the AI submissions people have posted on any server are usable. AI can make pretty pictures but it is really bad at making purposeful art and that is true for all art in this world. It is another tool nothing more and simply does not and can not replace real artists just like photoshop didn't end real artists either.
I will tell you colored pencils will probably never look right for a game backdrop but it is possible and I am open to seeing what people can create.

I was going to break out the art supplies this weekend, but the no more winter restriction lets me out. I have less than zero idea what show grounds look like, and a Google image search didn't seem super helpful. Excited to see what the rest of you come up with though!
Even though some of the submissions above wouldn't work for their intended purpose, I really like them! Good work, everyone, and keep practicing!Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free. -
I’m frankly running into that problem too, I had a couple winter ideas but haven’t the faintest what a proper showground background would be like. I only ever did barrel racing once and all my other horse experience is on the farm, lol. Ammit, is there any way we could get some pointers on more specifically what you’re looking for here? Or at least a set of useful keywords for google images?ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! Looking for in or next to arenas, win photo backdrops, barn aisles made of temporary stalls, horse trailers, cross-country fields, arenas with jumps or barrels or really anything you might find at a showground.
I also never said you can't post winter ones, just that we already have a lot of good winter entries and your odds are much better at winning if you post showground images instead.Need to contact me? I just had an idea, so I'm breaking out the art stuff anyway.
Like I told everyone else, it's practice, right? So, I'm going to practice! :DFolly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free. -
Something like what VenomVixen posted but minus the closest jump? I wish I had the artistic talent to do this, but alas I do not.
IAM WolfDen #50695 -
@boredcowgirl- noooo no, do your art! It will be 1000x better because real art always is and actually has purpose and soul. I enjoy AI for inspiration and ideas. But it really doesn’t hold a flame to real artists and the ethics of its education is dubious. At least there are technologies coming out to help artist protect their work (and even scrub/confuse the AI learning).
I’m not entering AI to win (and honestly hope it doesn’t against real art) - I just was having fun with the ideas and lack the artistic talent to draw anything. Though I’m slowly trying to improve my drawing skills, they’re not there yet :) I thought the AI made some fun wintery ideas, but beyond that- like Ammit said, they don’t have the right field shape and style to fit the game.
I’m almost tempted to take down the AI ones since I don’t want to discourage people from actually doing real art. Maybe I’ll try actually drawing a couple and see if they look better than something a 4 year old put together haha -
@Ammit @VenomVixen @Lallyhop sometimes when the muses are with me I can achieve great things with Prismacolors, Sakura Microns and a blender. I’ll keep trying at it.
Those AI ones are beautiful, @VenomVixen. Don’t you dare remove them! -
@boredcowgirl <3 Prismacolors are amazing, they’re the best. I bet the muses will bring you a spark of brilliance ;)<br />
I used to paint with oil and acrylic when I was a teen and was actually pretty good. But once I stopped it’s like I lost all my drawing ability. Though it never came easily to begin with. I’m hoping to convince my daughter (an actually talented artist!) to let me borrow her iPad with procreate so I can practice again. Haha. -
3 hours later, I have this. I hate it. But, practice, right? Surely the next one will be better.Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free.

FollysFantasies this is actually quite good. If I can point out a few things. It should be "Winner's" not "Winners". and the ground texture is pretty flat a bit more going on there would help a lot with the image. Also, can you do a version with no holiday stuff too? This was a really good idea!Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. Really? Thanks!
The ground really gave me a bunch of trouble and unfortunately I have to leave for work, so I will have to revisit that. I was going to on the next one at a bare minimum anyway. Super easy to take out the holiday decorations and to change the text on winners circle. I just based it on photographs that I was looking at online, and I thought it was odd that none of them seemed to have an apostrophe.
I am frustrated to admit that I have been unable to make heads or tails out of the numerous image manipulation and editing applications that have been suggested over the years. So I’m stuck with Microsoft publisher and Microsoft paint, and minimal functionality in Adobe photoshop 2020.Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free. -

Helped to put a horse on it.
Thoughts on the ground texture here? I kept the same ground but then filled an identical shape with the stock sand image, reduced the opacity, and put it on top of the plain gradient.Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free. -
@FollysFantasies It definitely helps! I think if you darken the back of the ground a bit (so there’s more of a “shadow” near the wall) it’ll help ground it even more. And maybe some clouds would look nice!
Overall though I really love this design, I definitely hope it gets included :xID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! I'm always selling straws and eggs from anything I have that catches your eye, don't hesitate to PM me and ask! -
Okay, I wasn’t sure if what I meant was clear, so I just made the tweaks myself, hopefully you don’t mind? Of course you can still say no, I’m not trying to override you, I just want to help in the spirit of collaboration, because I really want to see you win in this, it’s such a nice background! :xID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! Lallyhop, I need some help figuring out how to use whatever editing program you’ve got going!Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free.

Haha, thank you! It's just ibispaint on my phone, though, with a plain airbrush and the benefit of the multiply layer! Most decent art programs should have the same features. One of the easiest shortcuts to shading in the right color, I've found, is to color-pick the thing you want to shade, then make a multiply layer, then shade with that color or a close variant of it. So I just drew over it to put the shading in the right spots, and then used a cloud brush for the sky. :xID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! and a few more country roads with fairylights and possibly christmas tree farms, because I'm a sucker for them :)
