We need to talk about the Akhal Teke
-
Like the quarter horse, the breed comes in a wide range of styles. I am guessing those who voted for the Akhal Teke are interested in the extremely light-boned versions but I want to be sure of that. The breed ranges from super light to a more warmblood/tb look. (Also I don't know the proper names for these looks, please share if you do!)
Type A
Type B
Type C
So please respond below with which of the types pictured above you are most interested in seeing and also why or what makes it attractive to you. It will help us a ton to figure out what you actually want to see in the game.
ETA: **Please just give feedback on the style and weight of the horse not the specific confirmation as that isn't relevant. Think of it like picking between a halter quarter horse, a foundation quarter horse, and a reining quarter horse. The specific horse is not the question but the type of horse is what maters here.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. I'd prefer type A. The second photo of that reminds me of a deer. Head is small and body is long it looks built for speed.
Type B just seems like poor conformation to me.
My second choice would be type C but that type might look too much like the other Body types that are already in the game. -
Type A is my preference as well. I think of the light boned, desert horse. Reminds me of a Greyhound or Saluki in horse form. Plus it would be a great additional option for the Riding Horse Bone type.ID#43150 | she/her
Breeding Warmbloods of superior quality that suit my fancy! -
Skylight I am just comparing the bone weight and overall style not the conformation of the individual horses. :)Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

I prefer type c.
-
I can't choose between type A and type B, they both look like what I would call an Akhal-Teke. I agree type C is too warmblood to be accurate.
-
I think type C is close enough to the thoroughbred we can go lighter.
-
silverborn Type C is an Akhal Teke just not the kind you are used to seeing on American internet feeds. :)Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

When I think of them I picture type A in my mind. The head and necks are super fine and they just seem like the really light bone I've been exposed to.ID# 25784

Yeah all the old black and white photos I've seen of the horses in their layers of felt, and then untacked later, have been type B. But type A looks just a bit more modern/balanced in shape without losing the breed type, if that makes sense. C looks like the same breed but just to me doesn't look quite like the classic breed.
(For context, I was my school's Horse Kid growing up and I dived into books from anywhere between the 70s to the 2000s because those were what I could buy at yard sales or off the library free shelf. So my brain is still very used to the older style of most breeds, unless I've heavily researched them since then to recalibrate my brain's set point.) -
Like you said, a and b are the type you see on American internet feeds, but I’ve been following Tekes a long time and it’s been my observation that it’s not the best quality horses being brought over here… deeper digs show that the ones being raced and that are favored in their native lands more closely resemble C, though often seen even leaner when in fit racing form. As a farrier, I like seeing an equine athlete with more bone substance and a shorter pastern, so I prefer type C.
-
Im leaning toward type A. It is what modernly, most says "Teke" and I think will visually be more differentiated from current and future BC's. My second pick is type C, but I think it will more easily blend with other breed characteristics unless tweaked. Maybe it is similar to what Bored Cowgirl said though, that if type C were of that bone, but more lean and fit it would give a more classic Teke appearance.
-
My preference would be C as well. I agree with what both BoredCowgirl and VenomVixen said. I'd be happy to see them slightly leaner. My second choice would be b.ID: 40723

I think if they were leaner they would not be the type C example.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

The bone mass and correct pasterns wouldn’t change… also, while they are meant to be long backed, they are not supposed to have a weak coupling. From what I’ve seen of the ones in the USA, they all have obscenely long pasterns and weak couplings, neither are sustainable for an athlete. Some of the Russian breeders are breeding for exaggerated refinement and stretch as well, though not quite as extreme yet. The USA is terrible about taking awesome functional breeds (not just horses either) and ruining them because they pick a few favorite features and breed to exaggerate them.
-
I agree with your points but it is easier to see than to explain. I have a post going where people can post examples of what they are looking for. If you can find the kind of horse you are looking for with the fit you mean and post it there it would be super helpful. :)

I like type B the best, but type C is okay too cause I agree with what BoredCowgirl said. The first photo in type A definitely screams American type breeding to me which is extremist and I’m not a fanContinuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

I also feel compelled to note that the first C example has an old left hock injury that causes him it overload his heel and has caused heel collapse…. I’m 99% certain that if we could see him in motion he would be quite unsound. I can also say with 99% certainty that the conformation flaws on the left hind are injury related and not congenital, so if that issue making him look “off” is throwing anyone, please don’t let it! He’s actually quite lovely and built for speed!
ETA- when a horse has an issue on one hind leg, it reflects on the opposite front, this is called “high low syndrome” and that’s why his right front looks dishy and the heel is more under than on his left front.Thanked by 1ObsidianKitsune -

Type a is more modern, it's what people think of when people say the breed.
Personally, if the horse were real I'd pick type b or c. More balanced. For the game I'd choose A for sure, because we already have some heavier boned horse art and it'd be nice to get some super light ones too. -
Personally I like type B the most. C doesn't look very 'teke' to me, (although I know it is) and A looks overbred. B is just the happy medium between the two.ID: 55722

Type B
Even though I love the sort of "alien-ness" of the type A, I think type B actually looks more like what I imagine when I think of Akhal Tekes. I alway imagine a larger, more rectangular head like those.
