Era-breeding chat rooms
  • TL:DR - are the era-breeding chat rooms effective, and should we continue to maintain them?

I'm curious how many of you are visiting the era chat rooms to breed futurities foals. I see stallions being listed for breeding all the time, but how often are players actually going in and breeding to those horses? I know I've seen very little activity with the stallions I have had posted in those rooms, and have gotten many more breedings through individual forum posts or direct listing on the public board.
I have gone through the rooms several times since futurities were introduced and bred to lots of those stallions, but given the numbers of horses listed in some rooms I find myself choosing ones which are already on the futurities leaderboards in an effort to increase their rankings. I'm more likely to go scout the public board or troll the forum posts for breeding ads (although I admit I have done very little of either this month).

What are your thoughts on this, and what have you found most effective?

  • If you are hosting an era chat room just to host it and there is no active participation I would close it. If someone wants to actively promote that era with a small community it would be better for them to make a chat room for it at that time.

The activity rate in those rooms is different for different eras so the answer is on a per-era basis.
Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

  • Thanks Ammit, this is what I was leaning toward.

  • They've been a go to for me the past few seasons. I don't have many higher gen studs anymore, so I've been hitting era chats as much as possible for my older higher gen girls and matching them up best as I can. But, I might just be that oddball lol.

  • I always go check era chats first, and if I don't find anything I'm thrilled with I check the public board. On Bluegrass I've mostly done straw swaps with people or used studs advertised on the forum and then go find them in the chat where they're listed. Over here though I'm just rebooting my herd so I have nothing worth doing swaps with. I've just been finding public studs with the genetics I want to bring into my lines and almost making a game of seeing how much I can do without GMTing or asking for straws. But I definitely plan to visit era chats more in the future if they're still around.

  • As said above. If I want to breed any futurity foals, either due to just wanting to or hearing that that era needs more studs qualified, I will go through the era chatrooms first. I will actually also look for studs who haven't been bred to that season by someone outside, and quite often choose ones with a low amount of outside bred foals.

Or just one that strikes my fancy. Depends how many spoons I managed to gather that day

  • I'm part of the Breeding Circle so i tend to check there first.

I do try to remember to clear out the chats I run at the end of the season.

  • I start in the chats each month, though I'm just as likely to ask for straws as actually breed in the chats. My next step is the public breeding, but over all most of my future foals are born to eras that need help to have enough names.

  • Ok, sounds like it's worth keeping them up then. I removed myself from all of them, just to see if I miss them when I go hunting for futurities foals next season.

  • I start with the chats and the Breeding circle before I start posting requests. This month got weird IRL which made HaJ goals harder to meet.

  • I’ve definitely noticed that this server is really hard to keep up with as far as getting enough horses to qualify every season, so I definitely would not delete or close any era chats. I’m in the breeding circle and run the circle buddy chat, and we are always scrambling last minute to fill futurities it feels like. There isn’t as much interest in futurities on forest as there is on the other servers from what I’ve seen/heard, which makes forest difficult and why the era chats are so quiet. This season in particular was stressful, I wasn’t sure forest would qualify all eras but we ended up making it. Even asking on the forums was scarce and got very few responses. I check both public sales and the era chats when trying to qualify enough boys for the eras, and I am definitely not the only one looking during the season to make sure we have enough boys to run awards. Please keep them open for my sanity haha! :))

  • I focused on breeding my own this season. I may switch back to the futurities next month to try and give them a bit of a boost. I'm always torn between breeding my own stock (most of which have genes I bought to get into my herd) and helping in there. There are a lot of studs to breed to in there and I try to get at least one foal from all of them when I'm doing it.

  • In regards to asking on the forum, sometimes I'll take a week off and when I come back, I don't go through the forum backlog. Would it be worth it to have one forum post so people can "favourite" it and then get notifications when there is a new post, so it doesn't get lost? Kind of like:
    Year 123 Needed Eras - 2, 5, &9
    At risk Eras - 0, 1, 11

I'm not part of the discord, otherwise I'd be happy to "run" the post
