What makes a good reference photo? Images should have:

-Bright, clear lighting, without overly dark shadows
-Be side-on shots with the photo taken square to the shoulder, like the current images in the game.
-Be good examples of the breed type.
-Show as much of the horse as possible, tall grass hides a lot of leg details.
-Bonus if we can clearly see at least some of each leg.
-Limited, or ideally no tack at all.

-In addition to the nice square on body shots if you have an image of a body part (like a head, mane, tail etc) that you think is particularly nice feel free to share it but we need square full body shots more than anything. The body part in question should be clearly labeled and must STILL be square to the camera. We can't use the images otherwise.

We need adult horses AND foal images.

Please don't share images of "pretty horses" that do not fit what is outlined above. It bogs things down and makes it harder on us.

Wow I love the bottom bay he is very beautiful, I love his pose and I agree the 2nd bay horse has a nice outline but I like to see the legs, his tail is covering up the one leg lol

I like the last one a lot but he is not quite straight enough to use as a reference. Jenx is getting better at horses but right now he needs pretty picture-perfect references to work off of. We will get there will losser reference images. :)

@HighstormFarm Don't I know it! That's why we farm this out to many eyes. They stallions with the shoulders slightly away and the nose topped back to make them look more level, even and more refined. Looks pretty, but members seem to really dislike anything like that with the game images.

@Ammit, somethings that look good in a picture don't always transfer to art as well unfortunately.

@RKO oh yeah he's a handsome boy! So many I'm like if only you were posed better, lol

I have a definite preference for the more athletic, less exaggeratedly refined, Polish type.

Muscat was such a pretty horse. Perfect example of Russian breeding.

I think we may be going for a Polish type as our base. Lots of people made it very clear they don't want super exaggerated type and want something that looks more ridable and I think the Polish fits the bill. I love the Russian types personally but am going to avoid adding Russian breeds right now to the game.

I was hoping for the Polish type - two or three of their foundation sires came from the desert - so very close to Bedouin/Egyptian Arabian(I have been reading up on the subject) :) I did post two Polish and one Egyptian type on the Mesa server. The foal is Polish(mesa) and the one on Blue Grass is more of an Egyptian type. The bay that @HighstormFarm posted is get from Probat bloodline(I posted that same horse on BGS). Also I believe Bay El Bey has Polish blood in his background as well, Bay El Bey was a very good looking Arabian.

The historic Egyption type and modern Egyption type don't seem to look very similar anymore.

@Ammit, that makes total sense.

Modern Egyptian have gone a bit too extreme IMO. I think Polish will be a good look for the game.

To me the True Arabian horse needs to have a concave head with a smaller muzzel. Large eyes. But not the exaggerated look to the extent that the head looks like a sea horse. I have loved the Arabian horse for over 40 years and this has been the way I have always seen and owned them. For personal use only of course. To me the straighter head is more from the crabbet line. But this is just my opinion.

@wendolyne that first one is so lovely! Typey enough to be recognizable, sporty enough for various disciplines :x also a nice jibbah showing here which I noticed some of the examples were kind of lacking.
