Need your feedback on this Friesian Sporthorse outline

Jenx has made another one for us! Let us know what you think about this Friesian Sporthorse. We are explicitly going for the modern lighter-bone version of the Friesian breed as this will be the medium/warmblood body.

Things of note: The mane and tail are super quick sketches just to give you an idea of the look. They are not final art. The muscle lines are just there as reference notes and will be changing.

ETA: full drama mane would be a tack item, this more normal mane would be for the default.

  • Ooh! What I see that’s pointing out to me is the mouth looks odd (I’m guessing that will change though) and the back hoof looks kinda clubbed? I’m not sure if it’s positioning or lack of shading throwing me for a loop but it seems off in some way. Other than that this is very recognizable to me as a lighter boned sport style friesian and it’s absolutely gorgeous. It has that all legs sport look for sure, I can imagine this one moving exactly like a young friesian does haha! The normal manes are always my favorite instead of the extra tack ones, the line work on them just adds so much visual appeal to me. I can’t wait to see what this one’s mane looks like finalized! I love it even now

  • I think it's absolutely gorgeous other than the one hoof previously mentioned
  • There's something else throwing me off about that hind leg. Not sure if it's because I can't see much definition of the hock or the stifle, but it just strikes me as both post-legged and twisted (for lack of a better word).

  • I agree with both the comments about the odd hooves and hind legs. I’d also like to add that it seems disproportionally short backed… all of the friesians I have worked with are big long Cadillac horses; both the drafts and the sport horses. Also, most have a little more dish to their back making the top of their hip look more prominent. Maybe this is a Morgan/Friesian?
  • This reminds me a lot of Breyer's "Django" Stablemate mold. It's lovely. I agree with the above statements about the hind legs though - it needs a little tweak.

  • I would suggest an archier neck, a longer and more dignified looking face, and a longer back. It would be nice to see a more sculpted mane too.

The angle of the right rear pastern is off. If the horse is stretching that leg back, behind the buttock, the pastern should be about perpendicular to the ground. If he's not stretching it, then the leg below the hock should be further forward and perpendicular to the ground.
