Breeding program shift fun!
-
This breeding season has been a lot of me narrowing down my horses from my breeding program, as I shift things. You might have noticed me selling a ton of horses this season if you’ve been watching the sales list! When I started in September, I wanted to breed cobs mostly. Then I started focusing on bootstrapping only, with high PT horses being my only goal. This breeding season has been my shifting gears back into cobs, with the addition of sport ponies. I’m still aiming for as high PT as I can, but now I’m planning those horses to be cobs and sport ponies with certain genes, particularly splash, KP, and roan with additional white spotting genes. This is such a difference from before, but it’s going to be so fun. Last breeding season I did pretty well on the leaderboards, which is sort of what prompted this shift.
I have a Lot of GMT work to do on my foal crop this year, swapping bone weights and putting splash in. But I’m also really happy with what I’ve got to work with! I have a lot of really flashy babies, and upcoming stallions. The hardest part is the funds to get there, so progress is gonna be slow. I also need to work on show horses still, as my daily bonus is only 24k- not ideal when I’m doing stuff that requires a whole lot of cash, haha!
Have you done a big breeding program shift? Tell me about it!
Here’s the the cob stallion I’m most excited for- VGN Mistwraith. He is the son of a beloved stallion who passed, and he’s here to carry the torch. I still have some GMTing to do on him, and he will be 5% boosted before breeding. Then I will eventually save up to clone him and double boost.
VGN Mistwraith
I have a few more upcoming boys who are absolutely stellar. I wish I could boost them all!
My tobiano liver chestnut breeding program will also continue, with the addition of splash. Most from that program will be warmbloods, so I won’t be getting rid of my large horses entirely, haha.
Show me the stallions and mares you’re most excited for! I want to know how your programs are going and what your goals are.
Happy breeding, friends! May your pixel ponies produce well for you during the rest of the breeding season :)Continuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

My biggest program shifts happen as my stock has climbed in quality with papers.
When I started I used anything yellow or red, then I sold everything yellow, all my red G2, all my g3 that came from red G2, and then all the G4s that didn’t hit gold/star.
Now I just did a whole herd selective cull again, as I transition from red/A foundation pairings to blue/A pairings and mating up from there. Now hitting gold g3 but it’s rare right now. Quite honestly that’s the fun of it all. I don’t use red g2 at all anymore.ID# 24891

@RubyJoFarm I just started even breeding over on Mesa, it’s a lot of fun! I’m only in g2 right now, I got a couple of A papered boys and two blue mares from G2 so I’m pretty happy with where I’m at over there. I focus on riding ponies on Mesa. It’s interesting how different the breeding programs can be, I have to do a lot more thinking with my Mesa horses than I do on forestContinuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

That’s what I enjoy too. I’m overly picky when it comes to utilizing a stud. They’ve got to test AGA my benchmark or better then. If I get a better then, I have to revisit the whole generation and begin to pick out the lower end again. Honestly it’s kind of a blast. I also have been breeding for higher PT in my even lines as well, of course doesn’t impact the way they breed or quality of them but I enjoy the extra goal for myself.
I also have a HUGE preference for stacked fantasy genes!ID# 24891

I’m aiming for specific genes with my even breeding too, splash and roan as well plus a couple others. It’s so much harder to even breed haha, but it’s also so fun. I definitely have to learn to be more picky about my horses over there!

I have 5 accounts between the three servers, and none of them are played the same. This is by far my big one with some 7000 horses and a daily that I try to keep in the 250k range. We won't talk about the fact that I have Two barns for gmt projects.
What really gets me excited here is stacking closed genes. I have approximately 9 generations going back to era 3 of picking the most colored letters as the final sort before ponies move into their barns. You can actually track the path of my closed genes by opening my pastures. I also love other people's fancy foundation straws, and by gen4 most of my stock has at least one outside line in it. I have a mini project inside this fascination of maxing out the best of the gen 2 mares. Gen 3 is all mixed together, but I'm starting to get a decent turn out of gen 4 golds.
I also have era 0 and era 1 projects that I mine for show ponies as almost all of my show stock is born in house and just takes up barn space till they turn 14.45120
