Deciding how to price straws for a GMTd stud
-
Basically…that! When my project debuts next season I was wondering how you more experienced players decide to price them. I know it can be super variable, completely understandably, and if it were an IRL horse or dog I’d know easily but I’d love to know thoughts! I’ve added his link so it makes more sense.

I have seen similar studs go for 10k per straw. Depends on how much you want to share him and get him bred.~GreenAcres~ ID-31716

Thank definitely makes sense. I don’t want a million babies out there but he’s really fun, and I’ve had people share some amazing boys with me so I definitely want to pay that forward!

All my gmt studs I sell for 10k with a 4 year expiration. I start watching straws after they’re 12 or so so that I can pull the full 500 before they pass and hoard them in my vault ^_^Thanked by 1TripleGRanch

I’d def say 10k and 4 year expiration, like pestilenttempest said.Continuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

Just throwing it out there... Many people (myself included) will not buy straws with an expiration.ID 108Thanked by 1AHayesHorses

That’s fair but honestly if I’m not going to use straws within 2 seasons they’re just going to sit forever because I’ll forget them ^_^ expirations get me motivated to either use them or lose them. The amount of straws I have sitting in my freezer is absolutely ridiculous. But since I can’t bulk delete they will stay there forever.
I won’t sell them anymore without an expiration on my main studs because other people can keep the straws forever and I can’t pull max before they age out. I don’t profit off straws and don’t advertise straws. I sell them more as a courtesy than anything so somebody doesn’t have to buy their own gmtd foundation or can buy a license to use my studs. -
And I would never get the chance to use them, and therefore the money would be out the window, if the straws had an expiration :P They are all used in the end, but I have kids, and can go months without any chance to sit down to breed any foals at all. I often dont even get the chance to use straws or eggs pulled from my own horses before they expire. lol.ID 108

If I sold straws I also would refuse to sell them without an expiration. I want to see them used personally. I think giving someone 4 months to get them used is very reasonable.Need to contact me? Thanks so much for the input! I did the 4 season limit because I don’t want them just hanging out forever.

I offer mine like this:
15k - no expiration, limit of 15 per stallion
12k - 4 year expiration
10k - 2 year expiration
8k - 1 year expiration
But you might not want to follow my example because I have not had a single hit on my stud ad this season.
