For the last several months, Haystack has spent hundreds of hours working on a back-end tack generator update for the site. This has been a massive undertaking that if it works right you won't even notice at all.

Once this goes live you still start seeing a new message when you refresh horse images "Adding backgrounds and items." This new system makes tack generation site-wide work the same as the advanced tack editor system. That means refreshes will no longer mess up your carefully arranged tack.

We are aware of the following bugs with the advanced tack editor.
** z-indexing (how images are layered on top of each other) does not always save correctly, particularly the horse layer.
** There is a known issue with tattoos and Chrome browsers.
** The advanced editor is not saving thumbnails just yet.

Now that this project is out the door we will be fixing these right away. They should be pretty quick to get patched, but I am letting you know about them here so you don't think they are bugs with the new system.

This is not currently running when horses auto age-up, but we expect that to be in place before the next rollover.

We do expect this system to have some bugs. If you see odd behavior please let us know about it so we can address it.

ETA: Looks like we have a bug where tack items that do not have metadata (because the horse was never opened/saved in the advanced tack editor) are causing the generation to crash and return no image.

The fix for this is to open the horse in the advanced editor and save it. OR just wait. We will have a fix out asap, probably in a few hours.

Opera also has the tattoo bug. I have been using Firefox when I want to use the editor, and that's been a reasonable workaround for the time being.

Tattoo bug? Is that what’s causing my horse’s whole appearance to change when I add a tattoo? The first time it happened I thought it was because of the snowflake gene aging up, but was confused as to why it altered his white markings… but the last couple of times it’s happened the horses did not have any genes that would have warranted drastic change with aging, and the spots on tobianos were clearly altered. I play on an iPhone with the DuckDuckGo browser if that is helpful information.

BoredCowgirl no not at all. You would need to make a new post and post links to the horses you mean. That does not sound like a bug though. Editing the image of any horse can cause it to update to newer generation.

The above issue is now fixed. We also found an issue where some tack with no color was turning transparent. This has also been fixed.

I found one where the tack for a adult horse will appear floating around a foal.

It seems to be down now, I tried to use it a while ago and the image just kept loading and not opening, then tried again now and same problem.

Editing: it seems it’s down on both my fantasy gene cob stallions. Other cobs didn’t have that issue, weirdly enough.

DevilsParadise the bug is it should not be showing adult tack on a foal.

Whoops, where is my brain. Here they are- I don’t own any other fantasy cobs I don’t think, so I couldn’t check others. I just know I can’t access the tack editor and get stuck in forever limbo

VenemousGiant, I think you may be mixing up the advanced tack editor and this new update which is everything except the advanced tack editor.

Your issue is because of tattoos not because they are fantasy cobs. :)

We fixed a bug where scaling of horses based on size was not positing the horses correctly in the frame.

The other bugs we are aware of, in order of our priority to get them fixed are:
Tattoos do not show on the body
It is not hiding adult items on foals or foal items on adults.
We are still sometimes getting images that don't load the first time.
Scaling down in size is causing excessive pixelation.

Just in case it's useful - I noticed that if I copy tack from an adult horse to a foal *in the barn view* it does actually hide the adult items correctly when I look at the foals page.

Having trouble with tack editor on this horse. I have different tack added but when I go to tack editor to view or move it around I just get a spinning circle, the pic never loads. Not sure if this is a bug, new or known, but I wanted to report just in case.

12/16 Update:

If you tried to update a horse's image in the past 24 hours or so it would have broken as part of the generator was down. We fixed that issue.

Next, we rolled out a fix for the random image crashes. If you have an image fail to generate AFTER I made this post please let us know.

Finally, the tattoo manager page was fully regenerating horses instead of just refreshing the images. We fixed that. (Note there is still an outstanding bug with tattoos we are working on. Today's fixes became the priority).
