You gals have wanted random giving back for ages but my health did not allow me to get the programming hours in to make it happen. I am very pleased to have the first iteration of this new addition to the game out.

What is Random Acts of Giving?
RAofG will be open in June and December of each year.

Who gets to give gifts?
You must have qualified for level 2 or 3 of the gift exchange to give gifts. I want to make sure that those who are giving understand how the gift exchange works, are established community members with a clear grasp of the game, and will give nice gifts. I was worried about people sending just random nonsense because they did not really understand what the RAoG page was or was for.

Who receives gifts?
Anyone who submits a wishlist and makes less than 250k weekly showing bonus can receive gifts. This number might be adjusted in the future but I was worried about there not being enough people to give to. You can submit a wishlist by signing up for the gift exchange at any level, OR by submitting just a wishlist on the RAoG page. (To prevent cheating, associated accounts will never be assigned to one another.)

Is my person reserved?
Lots of people can have the same recipient at the same time. That way if get an assignment and something comes up you don't have to feel bad. You did not stop them from getting gifts.

How many assignments can I have?
As many as you want. Don't vibe with someone's wish list? Get a new assignment. Want to send 10,000 hbs to every single person who qualified? No problem just keep getting new assignments. Want to only give to tiny newbie accounts? No problem just keep getting new assignments until you find someone you want to gift to.

GE updates sneak peak:
RAoG is also using the new straw/egg, horsebuck, and updated horse-giving features. You can look forward to using these in the gift exchange as well. Not only can you send items right on the GE page, it will keep track of these, displaying what has been sent, and create a chat message alerting the recipient that they were sent something.

Send something outside the RAoG page? No problem, just let the person know you sent it in the message window.

Bug Notes: Over the past several weeks I have done mountains of updates to the gift exchange and created Random Acts of Giving. I have done my best effort to make sure things are bug-free but it is difficult for me to try out all possible situations. If something seems off please let me know right away.

There was a little bit of wonkiness with the new gift message alerts and chat room level viewing. I think I have that ironed out now but let me know if it acts up. :)

I have an alert that looks like a present with 2 alerts on it that seems by the url to lead to a random acts chatroom, but when I try to go see them I get sent to a page that says "Permission Problem
You don't have permission to do that."

ETA I'm not sure what happened, but I tried to get to that page several times before posting and it would not work. However the second I posted here the link worked. XD

Not sure if it is a bug or not, but in the RAOG chat feature, I can see documentation of all the gifts other folks have sent my givee as well as what I have sent:

Yes, that is intentional whywishesarehorses. It is not a secret what other gifters have given. It helps you know who has not received something yet and what might be already covered.

Ammit - that brings up a point worth noting: if you cycle through a bunch of random giftees in rapid succession, you won't see their thanks unless they post in the forum. Maybe include that in the prompt for a thank you?

I think that is ok. People can't thank each gifter individually as they have no idea if stuff is from one person or many. Might be a good thing add down the line though.

The way I am understanding this is that I’m not qualified for receiving or giving random gifts, correct? My daily bonus is 54500 and I am only a level 1 in the GE. That’s kind of a bummer. I wish I had merged this account into my other one now… I didn’t know I’d loose my other accounts gifting level, and I really enjoy the scavenger hunt of finding the perfect gift.

54500 is less than 250,000 so you are able to receive gifts in the exchange. Come June you can get involved in the gifting.

Bug? On my other account (aspenFarm2), horses are just showing up in my barn without any notice. I dont have the ability to respond or even know i was given something. I almost threw a present in the suction bc of this. With my other account, a little gift box shows up and im told what i got and i have the option to message. Im assuming that its supposed to be like that everywhere.

AspenFarms I would guess it may be more misunderstanding how it works. Have you done a gift exchange before? Have you looked in the RAoG message window to see if you have messages there?

Please link to any horses you think are showing up at random. :)

ETA: I looked in the database and I can see where you were sent a message for all 3 of your gift horses on that account and also that you renamed them all.

Yes, I’ve found the horses and have put them in place. I just didn’t get the little present notification at the top like I do on this account that’s notifies me of a gift. I should’ve said that.

It did send the alert and it says you saw the messages. That may or may not be a bug but it did send. :)

Update for Aspen Farms 2:
After logging on today, I did in fact have a little present box by galloping sales that had a notification for 11. I was able to thank you:). If it was a bug, it is fixed. However, after you respond/see what you have been gifted; are you supposed to be able to go back to that present icon again and see what you have been sent? Once it has been opened and closed out, it is gone until another gift is sent. I also don't have the option on either account to do anything in the random acts giving tab. I am aware that I am only a receiver, but wasn't sure if there was supposed to be an option to see your gifts or message. Just curious if that is how it was intended or if that is a bug.

You should be able to just go to the Random Act of Giving page and see a link for it. Is that missing? That would explain the confusion if it is. :D

Rolled out some updates this morning. Horses that are regifted again in the exchange are hiding their sender info. The chat links for RAoG receivers and senders are now showing up.

If you sent something in the RAoG you can now see all those past interactions.
If you are able to receive you now have a link to see that chat window.

Also, the RAoG page was not showing all gifters, all gifts received by a person. That is now corrected.

Bug: in the chats/"messages to XXX from all their random gifters", long questions/responses dangle off the side of the page, and I can't seem to scroll to read them all.

Thank you for the fix! Everything seems to be running smoothly. Question, since the update, are we supposed to still receive the little present box at the top as a notification? I ask, because the present wasnt there but after reading the forum. I went to check out the update and saw I was sent a gift, but again had no notification until i went to the messages.
