Chimerism?
-
I was out of the game for about a year and while im familiar with chimerism and what it means in terms of the game; Im just wondering if some can explain the merging of the genes? Is chimerism preffered? Why and why not? Im just looking for opinions/adive.Aspen Farms #48077|Aspen Farms Exchange-Public Chat

Are you asking about GMT merging? Is chimerism preferred to what?Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

If you merge two horses, you can have the potential to get many more gene combinations, depending on parents if they are lined horses though

How does it affect breeding? Ive been having issues regarding which gene would be passed? Also, when buying/selling is it now a preferred feature as to having a nonchimerism?Aspen Farms #48077|Aspen Farms Exchange-Public Chat

To my knowledge, chimerism only affects the colours of a horse, not their breeding or showing abilities. In this case, it is good to think of it as "two sires in one", but again, only in regards to colour. Usually each strand of DNA has a 50/50 chance of passing onto the foal. This means that the foal has equal chance of inheriting genes from strand one OR strand two. A foal cannot inherit one gene from one strand, and a different gene from another.
This is important because while Foundation brindles and the RGS is done equally (if you buy a gene, it goes on both strands) you can either get random chance genes (like cream on a horse from a HH that does not give a copy of cream) or you can gmt on "uneven" genes. Lined chimeras can also have "uneven" colour genetics, ie differences between strand 1 and strand 2. Let us use my boy Mocha here as an example.
Mocha In The Making
He has a lot going on, but the main differences are these:
Strand 1:
Agouti - a/a
Dun - ONX/D
Agouti Promoter - -/-
WF Minimal
Strand 2:
Agouti - A/a
Dun - ONX/nd1
Agouti promoter - +/-
WF Light
Showing off the examples of the inherited strands are these two full sisters. The first letter at a location is from the father/sire, the second letter is from the mother/dam.
9857239 Sister 1 here inherited Strand 1 from her father. She has the copy of recessive agouti (a), dun (D), and no agouti promoter (which does not show on the test if a + is not present). She also inherited her fathers WF of Light.
2M Roster ImpactCapacity Sister 2 here inherited Strand 2 from her father. She has a copy of agouti (A), non dun 1 (nd1), and even got a copy of agouti promoter (+). She also inherited her fathers WF of light.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

As for selling chimeric horses, they are rare to breed but are more common to occur if one or both of the parents are chimeric themselves. They can look very flashy, and the rarity factor makes them exciting to get, much like twins. As mentioned, you can gmt the two different strands in differing ways, as well as altering the inheritance chance of the strands, in the gmt lab which can make gmting a horse to be homozygous (all genes the same, A/A, D/D, Cr/Cr for example) very expensive. The "public market" in this game isn't consistent at all, so some people may snap up chimeras and others will never buy one. For a lot of foundations their value lies more in what Herd Helper, or Rank Special (rank 6 HH) they come from rather than if they were chimeric or not.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Some of your questions make me think you may not fully understand how chimerism works in the game. You can create or breed a chimeric horse or make one in the GMT lab. They are identical. There is no difference between the three different ways to get a chimera.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. They are if you like them. You won't be successful in the game by trying to market your barn around what is "popular" having a large show herd is really the only way to do that.Need to contact me?
