Gene that I see in GMT
-
Hello,
I know what LP, PATN1, H, and ASR1 do.
What is LPP2? It shows up when I look at this horse in GMT but not elsewhere.
It says it’s a “secondary LP spot size controller” but I don’t know whether that means it makes spots larger or smaller, and I don’t have enough tokens to afford to experiment. The horse doesn’t have LP so I can’t guess based on what I see.
Thanks, sorry this is probably a dumb newbie question! -
Edit to remove because turns out I can't read.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Edit to remove because clearly I need to put my glasses on before reading.....oh look, there they are, already on my face....
OK so I had a squiz on two horses of mine who are similar base wise. One has much larger spots than others, so I shouldn't need to even edit the horses in the GMT, just have a peak. And what do you know? There is a different in the LPP2!
2X GnatCattleNokia Gnat here has no copy of LPP2
2X ShapedChallengingTar Shape here has one copy of LPP2, and much smaller spots.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

I really have no clue about most genes however how do you know they have LPP2? Where does that show up on their genes? Im confused and want to not be lol
-
@SolandisStables this is what can be known as a "Hidden gene". We can't see it on their gene test. But we can however see it in the gmt lab when we go to edit them. You do need at least 1 gmt to do this though.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Would it be the hidden factor that makes evergreen boughs slow fading, perhaps?
-
The slow fading is on a gene that looks like Vrn in the gene lab. I don't track it, so I'm not sure which version is which.45120

Ok… now I’m curious. Just how many invisible genes are there that only exist in the gene lab?
-
I’ve got a breeding goal of hom LPP1 for my project. I still don’t have conclusive answers but it seems like LPP2 is dominant over LPP1.
Vrn is definitely the factor controlling Appaloosa varnish. Evergreen Boughs have NO copies of Vrn.
I can’t see the genes on any foundation horses, even in the GMT lab. I have to breed and inspect the second generation in order to infer what hidden genes were on the parents. From the second generation onwards I can see the genes in the GMT lab
