Replicate these dapples?
-
Good morning,
I’m absolutely in love with the horse I got from the Nightingale Songs event:
1 Ukraine Hammered Copper
How do I breed more like her? Specifically, how do I replicate that gorgeous dappled effect?
The closest I have is the silver dapples on my pocket watch:
1 Ambler Silver Watch
but they don’t seem to have any special genes in common. Is this another hidden gene situation?
Is the dapple effect color-specific, or does it breed independently of the base?
Thanks!Thanked by 1Summervine -
I’m not positive on the spw, but I know sooty + causes dapples, and I think it increases when paired with dp? I’m sure there are other players that have more knowledge on this subject, but s+ is the one I know for sure :)Thanked by 1Summervine

Sooty (sty), S+, and silver (Z) all cause dapples on horses. The dapples from S+ are a little bit different to Sty and Z, but they are more consistent. If you have a horse with sooty or silver and they don't have dapples, you can just generate a new image seed until you get dapples.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

I really love the dark dapples on Classic Champagnes. Here are a couple of mine.

Obsidian knows what they're talking about :D
Also, it's been my experience that *that* particular dapple (RS nightingale songs) I find on red horses that are Sty AND Sty+. It's probably just random serendipity, but that is what I've seen thus far.

Just because the vast majority of my herd are sooty and S+, and I'm actively trying to keep silver and introduce champagne (forgot they had unique dapples too!), doesn't mean I know everything there is to know about dapples...I HAD forgotten the champagne thing after all~! But yes, if you have a horse with these mentioned genes, generate a new image seed for 100hbs to try and get dapples on them if they don't have any. It is luck of the draw, so dapples could pop up in the first one or the tenth one. I just consider them happy accidents, and if I want to make sure dapples are near-certain I select for S+Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Thanks so much for the help! I was already keen on adding S+ to my herd for color reasons, so this is exciting.
Can the different types of dapples be combined / layered?
It seems to me that Dun or Roan mask the effect. Is that true?
I tried poking about in the Search but my results were inconclusive -
As Confluence mentioned, the first horse you posted is kind of a mesh between the sooty and S+ dapples. These are examples of dapples on Sooty horses, no S+

I don't think it's that dun and roan mask the dapples, but I think it's more of the fact that dapples are harder to see on lighter coats.
SH 9343188 champagne and cream, lightening the coat and making the dapples hard to see
Expro Dun Splash 9251163 sooty dapples on a dun
BrightLightsNCityScapes This one has S+ only, but it's difficult to see against the light coat
2Cn Tall Blonde and Hairy If you squint through the extensive roaning, you can see the S+ dapples
2DCn Remain Probability This one, however, is a roan dun with silver, sooty, and S+
2DFP I Dunnit Rabicano, the white striping on the belly, can also make dappling hard to see
2 9821871 This silver bay chinchilla dun, I'm pretty sure, has dapples! If you just squint onto the top of the booty, you can kind of see it.....
The darker a horses coat is, like these beauties, the more those dapples pop :)

And hopefully you didn't mind me spamming my dapples xD I basically have dapple causing genes in all my lines, even the extensively white ones where you may not get a chance to see them 95% of the time.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Don’t apologize, this is excellent! Very helpful.
Side note, how or why is BrightLightsNCityScapes pointing to the left? I peeked at his tack but didn’t see anything named “Flip This Horse” -
So that's a feature under the Advanced Tack Editor! You can move things around the screen, and flip them. Even though it is still in its alpha stage you can use it. You will need to flip every item around too, if the horse is wearing them. I'm pretty sure Ammit has removed the ability to flip horses so they're upside down, but there is at least one or two amusing photos of such a feature on facebook.
I did encounter a problem where the item would have its colour changed, but you can also change the colour in the advanced tack editor so you don't need to exit out of it.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
