I’m working on my first ever GMT project, and so far, I’m underwhelmed with what I’ve got. I got my first restricted gene (onyx) and want him to start a line someday, but I’m not loving his look yet.

1) how can I get larger white spots on this guy to show off the Tobiano?

2) if he was yours, what would you do to make him cool?

Change his white factor from minimal to light or medium

I would add 2 copies of Sooty, it would darken and deepen his coat, which would give a great contrast with the Onyx and tobiano! :)

As ImagineThat1 said! You can change the white factor of horses in the search by going to white markings and scrolling all the way down. Here is a horse search of horses with onyx and tobiano at light WF, with minimal interference of genes that'll change the expression (so must not have on phantom genes, appy, etc etc).

Onyx looks incredible with coat darkening… I love S+, DP, and Sty to make livers. It reminds me of Dove chocolates that’s actually why I had two studs similar to yours named Ghirardelli & his son, Dove!

I totally forgot about white factor! That makes so much sense.

I think he’s going to get some light white factor and some DP in the near future.

Any other suggestions?

White 8 looks awesome although mine also has phantom genes that make them look cooler

I'm not too sure how much gmting you're wanting to do, but here are some random horses that I like the look of with onyx! I have a habit of making dark livers, all darkening genes, and them chucking dilution genes on top of them.

Pearl seems to give them a lovely sheen~

8520844 Chocolate palomino pearl (cream and pearl)

PFLmf 3G Shattering Gift Macchiato, Splash M, also lightens up the coat a little bit.

Thanks everyone! Here he is so far. Trying to get enough sea ponies to maybe add another DP. It still feels like he’s missing something, I just can’t put my finger on it.
