Walking down memory lane
  • I am trying to play this as a new player, but am going to admit that it is pretty tough trying to experience it the way a new player would, lol.

I came across this game originally, by searching 'horse gene' games, as I was/am interested in genetics, and thought learning through a game would be the easiest & most fun way to learn. So here I am, playing my 10th year of HAJ on Bluegrass.

As a stay-at-home mom at the time, with my kids in school, I had plenty of free time. I remember very clearly, as a real new player, that there were are only limited things I could do on a daily bases with a limited budget. I was so hooked on the game right off the bat, but found myself grasping, trying to find things to do to occupy my time on the game. I even tried finding other similar online games, because I was so addicted to this one, but didn't have anything left to do on a day to day basis. And amazingly, this game still holds my attention, great job Ammit for keeping things fresh!

So on that note, if there are others like me, who love to be able to spend hours on the game (especially at the start), I always had this idea in my head that I thought would be fun. To have some kind of a match up game. If I cross 'a' horse with 'b' horse, what could the foal look like? (and have a reroll button to see the different possible genes it could inherit. Or something similar to the log on page, 'What Color Is This Horse?' Where you could plug in what color you think the displayed horse might be, and then be told which genes are correct, and you could keep guessing with clues until it is right.

These are just some side ideas, that might not directly impact ones stables, but could keep a person busy while actually learning genetics visually. It's not something that would be of interest to me now, as I have enough to maintain & keep me as busy as I want to be. But think something like this would have been a fun time waster 10 years ago for me. Just sharing from my experience :)

  • I spent a LOT of RL money on hbs and barns and pastures as well as the premium subscription right away, because I needed more space, more money, to keep playing and breeding. I also went searching for other games to play while I didn't have any money to do anything here.
I've been playing since 2018, and am still spending way too many hours here, to the detriment of any and all housework.

  • COVID and isolation brought me back to this game a few months ago. This game can eat so much time if you let it! I love it!
  • I can remember when I first started too. When I had nothing left to do, I read EVERYTHING xD My eyes were so sore. Even now there are times where I wish I could chose a "dark" setting like facebook has to minimize the white.

  • Well the increased hb's in the first few days via the Achievements is a great addition to the game. Being rewarded hb's while learning the game is clever! It would definitely have helped me when I first started playing. And I'm sure I would not have resisted purchasing the 'Welcome to the family' offer either.

An achievement idea for players who's 'Welcome to the Family' offer has expired (after 3 months)- could be a 1 day free trial of the premium upgrade.
1 day of experiencing this upgrade might trigger new players to subscribe. 'Hook, line & sinker' approach :) I myself could not play without the premium upgrade after experiencing it!

  • Final comments/ideas:

I must say, that after a month playing on this server, I have a lot of money to play with & would easily be able to start my breeding program if I had wanted to. I have been able to purchase a 30, 60 & 120 barn transferring hb's into IV's. And I still have over 1mill hb's at the moment. I don't believe this would have been possible though, without the herd helpers we have been gifted this month. Most of my money has been made selling these horses. So when these events are not taking place, could there be more chances of lotteries occurring for the new players? I remember when I started 9 years ago, that I relied quite heavily on them to get me extra hbs. I think I have only won them 3 times on this server over the month.

I was experimenting, and am still a firm believer, that one makes more profit from horses that are shown in the 'World' classes. I have purchased a bunch of horses that are trained to show in the 6W classes, to see how quickly I can gain points that way. These horses are not leveled off, but I do not train them, so that stay in this class. I have avoided buying the basic upgrade for this reason, because these horses would automatically get trained, and would most likely level off in a lower class. So my question is, could there be an option to turn training off for horses?

Maybe helpful for a new player: When one's barn gets too full for anymore horses, along with the message 'Sorry xxxxxx , your barn is too full for any more horses.', could there be some instructions on how to fix the problem. Or a link directed to the Voucher Exchange and/or Buy Upgrades page(s)?

Anyway, hope this was helpful, and thanks for the opportunity to a part of this!

  • Thanks for the very gracious gift Ammit!

Another thing I came across playing on HJ1, is that I had a hard time finding where it tells me when pastures are open (because I seem to forget this every month 8-} ). I found it in the FAQ User Guide under the 'Why can't I breed my pasture horses?' heading, but it would be helpful to have it in the 'Pastures' explanation under the Breeding 101 heading as well.
