If you can afford to try and make 50 random horses (or even just 25!), you can make them mares at 4 years old, and then you can breed all of them in pasture to a random create stud, and then auction off all the mares and foals afterward, and you'll actually have made money rather than lost it in your aim to try and get a candy pony.
