Auctions: Probably a silly question
  • I couldn't find an answer in the user guide, but here goes... I was looking at the auction and possibly got carried away.

What happens if I win more bids than I have the money for? Do I have to give them my firstborn child? Will the system let me bid endlessly, or does it stop me when available funds run out?
  • I’m pretty sure it will stop you. You can’t take bids back, and you can double bid on the same horse (bid up your own bid), so be careful if you have limited funds.

If you have less than 20k points, every horse you make on the Create a Horse page will have some points. This can be a good way for you to make some hbs, particularly if you make ExPerf, ExPro and Rank Special mares from the Herd Helper daily thread. If you creep above 20k points, you stop getting this perk, but if you drop back down again you get it back. Bred horses (foals from your breedings) don’t get this perk. There is a whole strategy to creating and selling pointed creates, but it came in after I was well established so I’m not as solid on how to do it.
  • Haha well I only ended up winning two of the bids I put in so my worry was for nothing :))

I have one of my pointed creates up for sale with no interest on her whatsoever, so I'm not sure if I'm overpriced or if the game was just slow over the weekend. But I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually. I still have some HBs sitting around and achievements to finish to get more, so I'm just going at a steady pace for now and enjoying the process.

A very, very kind stranger gave me some absolutely stellar show ponies today, so that will help. ;)

    Thank you for everything!

  • You will find the community in this game rocks. We do a pretty good job taking care of each other, so I would highly recommend that you just enjoy the ride these first few weeks, harvest your new player perks, learn to use the Horse Search (a skill that will vastly improve your playing experience) and work on building a show herd. In just a couple months it will be Christmas and Secret Santa time, and that’s when the community hits high gear and amazing things happen.
  • I've already found that people are pretty amazing! Everyone is so kind, and I'm amazed to see that it's not clique-y and super inclusive. So many other games I've played end up being hard to break into because established players keep to themselves, but I can tell that people here really take care of each other. I'm looking forward to getting established enough to pay that forward.

Any tips on how to decide what to breed for? I'm overwhelmed by the world of options.

  • The horse search is definitely going to be your friend for that! Start playing around with searching for horses with different combinations of genes, and just keep looking until you see something that's "ooh pretty" for you. Collect a handful of links to horses you like, find what the common denominator is between them, and then start breeding for it!

Open barn policy - no closed lines! I'm always selling straws and eggs from anything I have that catches your eye, don't hesitate to PM me and ask!
  • They're all pretty for me right now! Haha but I see what you mean. I might start by looking through the RS genes to get an idea of what does what
  • I totally know what you mean, I played well over 2 years before I decided I wanted to focus on heavy brown based beauties. I actually made all 3 free accounts, then bumped them up to basic, and tried out lots of different things while I was learning the game. Then when I was more established merged them all into the account you see today. I also have a couple of show ponies for you, are you in justanotherchat?

  • I am not yet. I appreciate it! With all the generosity everyone has been showing me I'm going to have to upgrade my barn! I feel so blessed.
  • What is the base price for a 210 stall barn? Its been so long, that I cant remember for sure :)) I wanna say 90 IVs? Whatever it is, put up a horse for me for that price (whatever number of IVs x 12500), and I will pick it up when I'm online, so you can buy a new barn. I'll add you to my chat (it's named Maribo), so just put it up there.

  • Oh my gosh really? Thank you!

Anything you want/need? I've got some decent pointed creates at least for show ponies...
  • If you request to join justanotherchat I will put up 2 older show ponies with good points to get you a boost. If you roll a Expro brown herd helper I will buy all the female foals for full lifetime payout.

  • @Ktarpey Are they that cheap? lol, I am so out of touch :)) No worries at all, I just spend it on GMTs :P

  • @Seaswell I'm pretty new here and trying to get the hang of things. What do you mean by buying all the female foals for "full lifetime payout"?
  • Seaswell: I have two expro brown right now, do you have a age and body type you prefer? (In any other context that would be a really odd questions)

Maribo: Thank you! I seriously appreciate it so much!
  • @SabreBaby on your horse's page, if you have done the performance testibgnon the horse,, there is a column of information including daily points, lifetime points, and at the bottom of that there's a line reading "Current Lifetime Payout" and a number. That number is how many HBs the horse would earn in its lifetime just from the daily payout. If you do any training or enter the horse in shows, that number can increase.

Since the game is designed to help new players out, if a player has under 20,000 points, their horses are generated with a random number of show points to start with (which affects the lifetime payout). The HBs you earn from shows is what brings in the money you need to run a breeding program. So established players who don't get points assigned to their creates anymore will sometimes buy horses that newer players create to get that starting point boost that they no longer get.

I don't know if that makes sense? I'm a newbie as well so my understanding is still somewhat limited.
  • @ktarpey ohhhh okay! Thank you! That makes so much more sense now!
  • I prefer Draft females, any age. But I'll take the ones you have even if they are smaller cause I can fix that. Just message me the links so I can pick them up.

I also popped up the show ponies for you.

  • I haven't been added to justanotherchat yet, sorry. I have 2 draft expro brown and one wb. As soon as I'm added I'll put them in there for you as well
  • Thank you so much Hun. Justa should be around in the next couple of days.
    45120
  • No problem! If I find any more of the expro brown HHs I'll hold onto them for you. Mares only, right? And do you prefer yearlings or breeding age?
  • Any age is good, as long as they are heavy. I definitely prefer mares.

Also thank you for gene testing your horses for sale. I found one in your sale thread today too.
    45120
  • I saw that!

Yeah I feel it's only fair to do the gene testing and performance inspections ahead of time. The only one I sometimes leave off is breeding advice, if they're not expro or experf it feels like a risk ;)
  • Take the risk. The ones who fail that you don't want to keep are great for the auction. Higher pointed ones are great for your show barn.
