Current Herd Programs - Group Discussion!
  • Hey guys! I love spending time on the forum and with this game, I LOVE all the different programs out there going on... and especially reading what your personal goals & achievements are!!

Can we spend a little time and share what you're doing with your herd and maybe... the next big thing for you?

Specializing In WBs: Appaloosa/Leopard Apps with heavy gene combos!
Featuring : Thunderstruck, Watercolor, Macchiato, Onyx, Snowflake, Kit Promoter (KP/KP2), Ice (1, 5, 8, 10), Shatterglass, Satin, Nexus, Sooty+, Dense Pheomelanin (DP), Chinchilla, Mushroom, Toner, Ink Spot, and Wrong Warp.
  • I've bunkered down and really started to concentrate on evenly bred, high quality stock (derived from Red/B foundations) to jam as many genes on my stock and pair that with a nice, high PT as well. All my stock must test Superior to their parent, and studs must test as good as my benchmark per gen. Of course, PT is known not to have anything to do with breeding ability... but it's just something to further keep my numbers down, honestly.

I LOVE stacked fantasy genes. The goal with each gen is to have SNF/KP on top of fantasy genes. I dont have many non fantasy gene animals around anymore. Almost everybody has something on them that's interesting.

I am currently going through yet ANOTHER crunch of my herd to thin it out even further than it is now.

After this crunch...my G2 herd... I use ONLY blue mares above 10.6 PT, and ONLY A studs that also must be 11 PT+.

My G3s, I use blue mares above 11.2 PT and A studs above 11.4 PT. (I do use one guy who is 11 PT but hes got some super nice hom genes going on that I'm trying to mix in).

My G4s all must be Gold/Star. Mares above 11.6 PT and studs must be above 11.8 PT (transitioning to 12 PT soon).

My G5 mares must be 11.9+ PT, studs must be above 12 PT. Anything beyond that (G6/G7 all need to be 12+ PT, and Bootstrap stock must be 13+ PT mares and 14+ PT studs).

I have such a constant flow of breeding stock, it isnt out of the ordinary that I do some additional crunches and get harder on these guys with each crunch.

I do introduce outside genetics on rare occasion, especially something that catches my eye. Even if they dont have the PT I'm looking for (again... doesn't have any correlation to breeding ability, just a personal preference).

  • My herds are as follows:

Fantasy even bred: mostly cobs, although there are some light and medium bones in the early generations. End goal is to combine chocolate, chinchilla and oynx.

Cob even bred: this herd has two "lines". One is my non-varnish appy line. For this line, all foundations are Evergreen Boughs or EB clone. These also have halo, appy spot regulator and/or snowflake. I'm up to 3rd generation with this line. I recently added height Regulator as well. Second is "all the other cobs". These are mostly dun, DFP, but all heavier horses that aren't Fantasy or EB go in this line. This herd also has pangare+.

Riding pony even bred: This is my oldest and largest herd. I have quite a few favorite genes packed into this line. SF, KP, GP, DP, Halo, spot size, height Regulator, DFP1/2 and more. I'm adding more grey this year with a new stud.

Uneven/Boot Era 3: this is my almost exclusively homebred bootstrap herd that dominates the Era 3 and Snowflake leaderboards. I am starting to produce 14pts regularly now. I'm expanding it to add on a Fantasy line by mixing some of my even bred fantasy horses in.

Uneven/Boot Era 0: this herd i am actually planning to cut drastically or even cut entirely to make room for another group.

  • I have been getting stricter with my lines since I have so many horses right now so its a struggle but I started a liver ice line in the mean time. Not much going on since I work a lot so its hard to get everything done. I'm even gonna start comp testing mares probably

Always willing to help. Licensed for everything. Specialize in Liver Chestnuts, Chocolate Palominos, Sabino, Tobiano. But I breed everything except Frame

  • I'm still trying to expand my show herd, so I'm currently collecting pointed foundations that fail BA for that. When i breed my own, i have a pasture i breed to sell each month for income, then i have two main herds.

My cob/draft herd is black based horses with appy, tobiano, frame, and white. I tend to try to isolate so they get only a few of those by gen 3.

My riding pony/horse herd is red based horses with lots of cream, sabino, tobiano, appy, frame, and white. I try to breed as many white patterns in to each as possible. Currently i have a few white chestnut frame appys that i absolutely LOVE.

When i breed those lines i keep everything that fails BA as a show horse and then I'm picky with color as primary choice for those who pass. If they make my short list, i PT them and then the lowest of each body type goes. Generally if they're under 9.5 PT they go automatically.
  • I am restarting my herds after a long break from the game. I have a fantasy line, a snowflake line, and my basic line - black based which I hope will eventually all carry Cream, Kit M, Satin, DP and KP.

I also have my bootstrap line that I am just aiming for the highest PT I can. So far I have 1 horse that has achieved a PT of 15.
  • I just got done doing a major cull where I sold or spayed everything that wasn’t hom chinchilla. I also did a lot of quality culling as well.

My new goal is to use as many of my embryos as possible so I can start playing with new mixes without getting overwhelmed. I have over 200 embryos currently made so it will be expensive.

Those are my current goals. RL is taking up a lot of brainpower right now, so I’m trying to keep things simple so the game is relaxing not stressful.
  • I actually just relaxed the standard on my even fantasy line. I had gotten the quality project up to gen 4, but I was loosing too many girls that carried multiple genes. So now the best of generation goes in pasture and second tier gets hand bred if I have time. I have a feeling it's going to evolve into two separate lines. Flash and Quality.

I also have a collection line that is looking very promising. I've been using outside straws for about 95% of these guys, and that is making me very happy.

My bootstrap herd has no gene rules and is focused on getting mares good enough to throw an aga foal to my favorite stud. I recently dumped everything under 12 pt in the auction so I could have more room.

  • I'm not sure what to do right now.
I have cut my breeding program down as I had far too many to breed and decided to only breed with mares that test superior to their dams (I have always done that with studs) so my pastures are a bit empty. :)
I play with fantasy genes a lot and try to keep them separate from my main DP brown/black/liver herd.
I think I might leave my main herd for a bit and concentrate on my fantasy line - I love putting watercolor, onyx, nexus and ice together.
I always do a bit of bootstrapping esp since I merged with my alternate (DinaChill).
Lovely to hear of others plans - good luck with them and if I can help with anything let me know. :)
Breeding brown/liver/black with white spotting drafts. If you ever fancy straws PM me. PM me if you need help with GE.
  • I've doubled down on quality, although not quite to the standard of some other players! From foundation through third generation, each foal much be superior to their parent and be a full paper level above the previous generation. From fourth gen onwards, they must paper superior. I will geld/spay potential breeding stock if they do not carry all the genes I'm after--and this is something I've decided to get a little stricter on because of how many intact horses I've got!

    - My first line includes paintbrush warm and cool with all kinds of phantoms mixed in. KP is common in these guys. Really liking pangere plus in this line!

    - My second line is a chinchilla line that carries sooty plus and silver, and now also toner, inkspot and wrong warp! I do prefer a light white factor, minimal chrome on these loves!

    - Thirdly, I breed for liver mushrooms with sooty plus, and these guys must have flaxen. DP is a must here!

    - I've recently started a small group of riding ponies that will be a mish mash of my favourite genes, just on riding ponies instead of cobs!

These four are my main focuses, but I do have some other genes I'll play with if I have time left in my breeding season. :)

  • I was just breeding for pretty colors, but have recently started breeding for even generations. My main project is Snowflake Appaloosas though I'm working on several others. I have a Blackest Night line, a All Other Chimeras line, and last month started a Vault of Stars line. But I'm running out of space so I'm not breeding some of my pastures for the next couple months.
