Brindle question

I've noticed some brindle horses have pinto-like patches of the two colors and others have vertical stripes. Is this a random chance at creation?
I tried to search and didn't see any specific answer anywhere else about it. I was just curious. -
If you don't like the appearance of a brindle, you can reroll their portrait. That's what I've done with most of mine to get a patchy look vs the stripey look.ID# 25784

The patchy appearance is considered rare, so it might take a bit of rerolling to get that patchy look.
