Lined Chimera GMT Help.
-
I have this filly that is a chimera. I was going to change her Sabino 2 on both strands. I was going to make one Tobiano and one KitM. But it's only letting me choose W8 on both strands. (Sire is chimeric with W8/KitM and Sb2/Tobiano). Why is this?

I think you can only choose from the genes the parent could have passed. So in the case of a chimeric parent, you only get the choice of the genes on whichever strand passed, not from both strands.
Foundations are the only totally customizable horses, and only if they haven't had any foals yet. -
It’s got something to do with the way the inheritance works, I’m not really sure why it’s only letting you choose W8 though. You should, at least from my understanding be able to choose W8 or kitm, because I think you can only choose to change things from the primary strand of DNA. But I’m not entirely sure.

@silverborn, if what you said were true, it would let me add Tobiano (it's on the same strand as the Sabino). But it will only let me add the W8 (which is on a totally different strand).
@FallenShadows714, the whole thing has me confused. LolLove,

This seems to be a thing with lined chimeras.
The GMT lab only seems to recognise the Primary DNA strand of the parents for GMT purposes. Even though your horse inherited everything from the second strand the Lab doesn't realize the second strand exists so will only give you Primary strand options for GMTing.
Ammit has been super helpful in the past when I have contacted her asking yo get a secondary gene GMTed on a horse.
I know she is super busy right now so I don't know how soon she could get to it.ID# 47364
Breeding for all version of black drafts using chimera foundations.
Help me build my black brindle army!
Always looking to buy B/Red foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.
I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me. -
@BlackWyld, that is a good explanation and I do remember this being said now - BUT! It won't even let me at the KitM, which is on stand one. It's only letting me choose W8 instead of the Sabino she got.Love,

Just popping this up again in case anyone else has any more info. It's like each bit that everyone says makes sense, but still doesn't quite add up.Love,

I think it's because the Sb is on the sire side of the secondary DNA, but GMT lab only looks at primary DNA, so it's only looking at the dam side of the primary DNA.#28036

Well... that kinda makes more sense, but it's still weirdly complicated. :)) :-??Love,

Have you tried changing it to the W8 and then seeing if it let's you change it to the one of the others. Whenever I change one of my lined horses descended FROM a chimera it makes me cycle through everything to get the gene I want. It can be expensive. ;)
