—CLOSED— What should I look for in a Show Pony?
  • What should I look for in a Show Pony?

I mean it is better to find one that has high Lifetime Earnings, High Pointed, High Daily Payout, etc...?
  • When you're first looking high points is something you'll want. The most important thing to me is once they have leveled off that they are consitently earning points every month. A good range of ages is another thing, from 2-17 some older horses who are still earning lots of points are good to keep as well.

This mare is still being trained. But she still earned over 200 points this year. She’s my best show horse at the moment.

Now this mare despite having a decent number of points hasn't earned more than 5 points this year despite being shown regularly. She hasn’t stopped training yet so I’ll keep her. But if she isn't earning more than 20 points a month by the time she’s older than 10 and leveled off, Ill toss her in the auction.

Now this is my worst show horse at the moment. He is over 10, leveled off and has earned less than 5 points this month. That means he is not making me hbs. It's earning points that makes your daily payout higher. I‘ll be tossing him in the next auction for his daily payout, and to open that stall up for a different show horse.

I only toss show horses into the auction after they are 10 and only if they aren't earning points. Untill they are 10 they get a free pass and I keep every show horse I breed.

  • Sorry I’m not good at following long comments. I just want to know what I should look for in a few Show Ponies is all.
  • EvieC, it looks to me like BlaxkDiamond gave you a pretty darned good answer. Are you looking for how to search for show horses? What to put in the search fields? Because the stuff BlaxkDiamond listed are most of the criteria for show horses.

  • @BlaxkDiamond can you tell me how you figured he's earning less than 5 points a month? I'm not sure how to read the horses showing chart. I'd like to learn more about getting better show ponies as well :)

When it says 12o/o12, does that mean that he's 12 out of 12 horses? So last place? Sorry, I'm still learning
  • ConfluenceFarms - Yes that’s exactly what I am asking! Also as I already said I am not good at following long comments.
  • EvieC, if you want to do a search for show horses for sale click For Sale in the status box, and UNclick stallion/mare in the gender box.

  • Well I do know that much but my question was What should I look for in a Show Pony?

I mean it is better to find one that has high Lifetime Earnings, High Pointed, High Daily Payout, etc...?
  • Its not that easy! The simplest answer is: Yes. All those things. Daily payout is probably the most basic, but, as BlaxkDiamond said, it also depends on how old the horse is if it has levelled of, it's PT, etc.

  • OK. That’s all I wanted to know. Thanks!
