This is the sire:

Gmt 7351320

So- both sons tested AGA to their sire, but Frosted tested superior to the foal. Does this mean that Frosted is slightly superior to sire just not enough to test as such? Or is it more likely that he is right around as good and the foal is slightly worse just not enough to show it?

If he's AGA his sire, there's no way he's any way superior to him. He'd test superior if he were. It only means his foal isn't as good as he is.

No, SpryOfJune, that is not correct. AGA is about as good as, meaning it can be a little better, or a little worse.

CoppiLane, I would think that if they both test AGA sire, and the first one tests superior to the second, then the second one is slightly worse that his sire, and the first on slightly better.

Maribo is correct. "About As Good As" can have a 2% difference either way. You don't get results of Superior or Worse until you hit a 3% difference.

Thank you all for your quick replies, I knew it was *about*, but didn’t know about the 2% variable! That being determined, do you think a boost could make him test superior?

So from what I understand (and I know hardly anything about boosting and levels) FolliesFantasies said that they will only register as superior if 3% better or more. Say the sire is 100%. The inferior foal at a worst case could be at 98% - 99%. The Superior foal could be at 101% - 102%. Therefore from what I understand, the 'superior' foal could need a 1 or 2 % boost to be superior to sire.
I'm not sure if this is exactly how it works

I don't think the foal would, but it's possible with a 5% the other could, I believe? I honestly haven't ever tried it. I find it more cost effective to keep breeding until I get a superior son, or if I get a mare that tests really high, I make her a stud.

I am almost 100% certain that any horse that tests AGA will be pushed to superior from a 5% boost. If you wanna use 1%s, you can try one at a time. The slightly better one will probably only need a few, like Ellesmere said :)

I may attempt breeding more and seeing how they come up, but even using mares that paper higher I’m having a hard time getting ones that test superior. Even a pasture boost only brought one that papered higher but she missed the watercolor from her dam. Maybe I’ll try some other pairings and see what I get before boosting :)
