Bootstrap Check In - Who are Your Up and Comers? Any Suprises?
-
Last season was a season of surprises in the bootstrap herds on both my main accounts.
I had been intending to focus on breeding up superior sons of my main bootstrap boys (Aman, Darth Dunkle, and Enlightened) but I just could not bear to turn this Five Birds cutie into a filly when he turned out BiP and related to Dixon on his dam's side.
Other than maxing his bone, dropping his WF a bit, and possibly boosting, my cute little Dickey Bird will be running with the big boys in the main pasture next season.
BS BW Dickey Bird BIP
On WyldWood I did some more thorough comparison testing on my spectacular bombshell Davkhar son and he has blown my mind by testing superior to all my studs except the boosted Dark Requiem.
He does test AGA Tough in the WyldWood but, with how he compared to my other boys, I know that he is at the very top end of that AGA percentage and definitely slightly better. A 1% boost is probably all that is needed to push him over to testing Superior to Tough.
BS WW Bujgiin Khicheel BM
That a colt this amazing could come from a 3rd/4th gen clone (boosted or otherwise) kinda boggles my mind. I guess he give good testament to his amazing dam.
I am in awe every time I look at him.
He is more than I ever expected or could have asked for.
Along with being made perfectly consistent and maxing his height he will be made hom DP and get a copy of brown and maybe dun before I let him loose with the ladies beside Dark and Tough in my "Best of the Best" pasture.
I am still debating boosting. I may wait until he ages then clone him and boost the clone like I plan to do with Tough if he gives me no superior sons.
What up and comers (unexpected or otherwise) do you guys have in your booty herds?ID# 47364

I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me. -
That Gulastra Plume colt of yours is to die for. I just adore that coloration!
The only real exciting stuff going on at the Kismet ranch is a whole lot of me spending large amounts of hbs to chase a silly goal... I can't think about how many barns/show ponies I could have bought instead, because it will make me cringe lol.
My goal within the next couple seasons is to set a new server PT score record.
So, last season, I took a colt that tested superior to most of the other colts in the crop, I boosted him, cloned him, and then boosted the clone. This final beast tests superior to his sire (who is #9 on the Satin LB), and tested superior to another super fancy bootstrap boy I had in my stable. Needless to say, I am ridiculously excited for this guy to turn three:
KS Alexei BST
I also did the same "double boosting" procedure with a filly, so breeding her and the above stud together in a couple seasons is going to be super fun! She very well could be my HAJ dream horse if she had GP like your boy <3<br />
KS Secretz Out
I didn't actually know you could double boost horses using a clone prior to like two weeks ago, so I guess that was a surprise for me lol.
And, this season, I have that set of beautiful Macchiato stock that you sold me to play with. I am so excited!✿ Kismet | #38280 | Bootstrapping Excellence ✿ -
My alt SweetGlow has been on the cusp of attaining a 14.0 PT for the last several months. I decided to try out crossing to some new studs to see if that would make a difference, but eventually figured out I just have some plain old mare lag going on. I've been gradually comp testing and culling my mare herd to bring the quality up, but haven't seen a 14 quite yet!
I have some up and coming boys who are the same quality as their sires but have higher PTs and I can't wait to put them to work!
SG4 WES 134 Lonestar This one is from a stud I got from @BlackWyld and is actually a teensy bit better than his sire.
SG3 139 LOU Mazerunner And this one is a 13.9 - so close!
And I just realized that my boy Taku is getting older and needs a replacement. He was boosted and so I've only been able to get AGA sons from him that are actually slightly lower quality, but we may have to settle for one of those.

After Ammit introduced halo varnish this week, I've been on a mission to create as many halo varnish mares as possible to introduce that to my bootstrap herd. I have my straws all pulled and I'm just waiting for lab breeding to open!ID 43830

Those are some incredible looking stallions, you guys! Wow!
Last month I opened the gate and let my first double boosted clone, PFR Archer C, into the pasture and he did not disappoint! He'll again have the best of the mare crop this month, but I have a few new faces that I'm excited about as well.
My boot boy, Winterfell, has been parked at the top of the Gray leaderboard for as long as he's been in production. Few people breed for gray, and even fewer breed for gray boots, but I still want all my boys to be as good as they can be and Winterfell stacks right up there with my best stallions of that generation. Winterfell is 19 this month, so I cloned him a few months ago, and his successor, Snowfall, will be boosted and meet his first girlfriends this month. (On a sidenote, I'm always looking for high octane gray boot mares, so if you have any that are surplus to your requirements, please give me a shout.)
PFR Snowfall C
Another one who'll likely get a boost before he hits the dating scene in a few days is Palatial Knight. You have to go back to his great grandsires to find boosted stallions in the pedigree. He passed BA, tested AGA, and is pretty much my favorite color in the game. Who doesn't love S+ and buckskin?
PFR Palatial Knight BA AG
This month, I'll also be bringing in some stallions from other lines for a bit of outcross magic, doing some heavy testing and sorting of mares, and looking hard at boosting a few more of those. I'm looking forward to it!

Thanks to my amazing Santa (*coughcough* @BlaxkDiamond), I have a nice big barn with an incredible bootstrap stock, including these two as the head stallions
KCL UT ShS Java
KCL ShB Mainly Porcelain
A couple months ago or so I had a little bit of a mental breakdown and almost quit the game (I originally played it down because I didn’t really know how to handle it, but have now accepted it as what it really was), and ended up selling all my horses, turned in my upgrades, barns, and pastures, and gave the profit and horses to a friend. But after my stress levels went down I realized how much I miss this game and came back. Although my friend did return all the horses I sent them, I had sent most of my bootstrap and show herd to auction, so it was pretty much a do over. BlaxkDiamond has given me an opportunity to get back to where I was with these beautiful horses they gifted me -
@CoppiLane, just so you know, you are one of only two people (besides myself) to own Archer foals. :) If you're in need of bootstrap mares, or even a stallion to tide you over until your new boys age up, I can totally help with that! I'm glad you're back in the game!--------------------------------

Oh I had no idea! I was too busy ogling over Java and the others that I didn’t even think to check their lineage! Feel so special :) -
Last time I checked in I had just reorganized my mares and had finally just started double boosting my stallions. I used those super boosts to crawl up the pt board, and have finally gotten some pretty nice pts! Last time I checked in my best stallion had a pt of 13.7 and I was just breaking into 14s.
This boy is double boosted and 14.8
My Silver Lining
I’m so thrilled with what he has produced so far and he’s only been paired with breeding cap and a few boosted mares. He will get his first double boosted girlfriend next season! I’m super excited so see what they produce!
Boost aga t3 6954981
I’ve also got a super nice 14.9 double boosted filly out of silver lining that I’ll be breeding back to him to see if I can hike up the pt a little bit. 2 more seasons to wait though, ugh.
Boost 7240192
I’ve been picking up mares from different lines and adding them to my personal collection and it seems to be going pretty well! Since the cat is out of the bag about double boosting I figured I would start actually popping a few mares into the lot to vie for some high pts.
I also love the new varnish gene so I’m going to be trying to get that into my bootstraps! Yay!
On another note my fantasy bootstraps are doing wonderful! They are all golds/stars now pretty much and their pt is steadily growing. They all are required at least 3 fantasy genes at this point. -
@pfrsue that buckskin boy is to die for!
My bootstrap herd hasn't been prioritised for a long time. I'd let it slip and there were alot of substandard mares in my pasture. In November, I tested all my stallions and kept the ones all testing to the same level. Last season I ripped the mares apart. Got rid of anything with genes I don't allow in my main herd, and then the big hits, anything with a large or extensive white factor and anything with below 2.8 bone. 180 mares went down to 60.
Most of my herd has been bred from this one gentleman. I found him in the auctions back when I was first starting up my bootstrap lines and all my stallions and most of my mares can be traced back to him.
Un STYsab2dpnx 4828176 Star
Wonders behold is my current benchmark stallion. I am yet to have anyone test superior to him. He is the most flashy one I have at the moment, but he doesn't fit my colour goals so I'm breeding some AGA stallions instead. I'd love to know how my herd tests against some of the other newer herds.
Wonders Behold Bench
I don't know if its a good thing or not, but every season I get at least 2 or 3 stallions to test AGA to this level. I don't test my mares at the moment as comparison testing is something I am fairly new to but I think this suggests my stallions and mares are at a similar level?
I managed to find this boy in the auctions, he tested AGA my benchmark so I am super excited for him to bring some closed genes into my bootstrap herd.

Double Boosting? I am curious if there is something I don't know of yet.
Well anyway, this is kinda slightly different, I recently gotten a lot of new blood for the first time in real life years for my bootstrap herd and I am really excited to see what this next breeding season will bring! pursue, Justa, Ceffyldwr, and Blackwind were so kind to help me thorghouly infuse my herd with dun promoter 1 horses to the point where I decided to try hunting two different pastures of bootstraps instead of just one, and at the same time collaterally introduces a whole host of genes that my heard had lacked or had lost along the way (forms of bay other than brown, silver, brown, several white genes, roan, and a few others. let's see how those mix!)
I have ended up plotting it for the time being with my ND1 and Dun Promoter gals with my regular GP DP boys, including this boy who gets his first pasture this month,
Tough Secret
And my regular girls with my ND1 boy and a brand new Dun Promoter boy also given by the people above.
Wyldwood Thylacine aga
So excited to see all the ND1 and Dun Promoter carrying foals this month! Can't wait!
Also, this is a filly I got from one of the new mares last month. It looks like she of the new genes are intending to stick around. Dun Promoter, Wild bay and Chocolate in another mare! It has been a long time since I had new blood, as I said earlier, and I am excited to see where it takes me!

@Wildland Acres double boosting is when you boost a horse, clone it and then boost the clone, effectively making it 10% boosted from the original.#28036
-
I've been separating my bootstrap herd the last couple seasons by those with established bootstrap lines (Era 0) and those without (Era 3, homebred), and now I'm incorporating my 6+ generation horses into the bootstrap herds to increase the colors. My goal is to separate the homebred herd into a Fantasy herd and a non-fantasy herd eventually.
My favorite up and comer is probably my 2 year old Era 3 colt. He's almost exclusively homebred with only a couple horses way back at the 2G level not bred by me.
BS 3 Adjusted Decline

@Wildland Acres
Exactly as Haltanny said.
That is what I did with my Khansuudyn/Dance Between Two Oceans boy.
I had bought this amazing boy off of @Kismet for my legacy project:
BS WW Ocean Khan
He was a 3rd/4th generation low star to start with and then I boosted him.
He still tested lower than I had hoped for my BS herd so to get a bigger jumpstart Kismet was kind enough to help me clone him and then I boosted his clone:
BS WW DavkharDalainBujig
Thus “double boosting”.
And that is how I somehow managed (when pairing the clone with one of the mares you sold me) to get a colt that tests on the superior side of AGA the non-boosted colts that I have purchased off of you. I.e. Tough in the WyldWood

Loving seeing everyone's boot boys!
I've been bringing in new blood to my boots because my Bird/Gossip lines were stagnating a bit with top papers but mid-range 13PT and just couldn't seem to get higher. Recently I was given the chance to get some awesome Wildland horses from boosted lines, and then @PFRSue gave me a chance at a couple of her amazing young boys from boosted lines, and then I boosted a few myself and voila! Last season I FINALLY bred something over 14 PT. It seemed impossible for so long, but it turns out it was just impossible without boosting. lol
Right now, this is my top boy, the only stallion I have who is throwing 14+, but I have a few boys I'm looking at to boost who may catch up to him as far as papers go, if not PT.
PFR Browns Alpha Wolf
I've especially got my eye on this boy so far, but I won't decide for a few seasons on whether or not to boost him. He tests AGA my top *Star from totally unboosted lines, so he should be at the top of the unboosted range. As a huge plus, he brings together not only Sue's lines and Wildlands, but also my Rogue and Xceptional's Gossip line into a very nice DP brown dun boy with satin, sooty plus, some lovely non-kit chrome, and dapples. :x

I'm just over here chomping at the bits for pastures to open cause I'm thinking of doing the stupid things and wasting what pasture bonus I have built up on lower quality mares in order to get my better young stock in there cause I sure forgot to put em in there last season 8-} [-O< [-X
Other than that, I'm waiting to see what this bunch can do lol.
WRS WeRideAtDawn Dssak
I'm so ready to put a little bling back in my herd, come on next season! He tests aga Rich, who sits number 1 on the liver and chestnut LBs. He will age up at a perfect time, cause even with the cull I just did to my boot mares, Rich has his hooves full! Here's hoping I get an aga son from one of those boys eventually lol.
These girls are going to do wonders in the pasture when their time comes! I sure hope they pass that PT on. Getting outside blood into my herd has helped wonders, I picked up some awesome mares and straws from Kismet, WildlandAcres, WyldWood, BlackWyld and a few others that are making my quality soar. I appreciate every one of y'all that have helped my herds get this far.
My fantasy boot herd is also getting overhauled. I've cut numbers drastically and am concentrating on quality more than color and there's already a huge difference! A new stud to help along, I'll get back to all kinds of hom fantasy genes eventually, but it'll be with great stock that just so happens to be in the fantasy club lol. I bought into wayyy too many new (to me) genes in Dec so there's plenty to add to the line!

So I just learned about double boosting from reading this post and my mind is blown. :-)) Guess I have something new to work towards!
I love reading about everyone’s goals and progress. This is a great thread! @pfrsue I also breed greys and would love to have some straws from your gorgeous boy if you are ever selling. I have this mare who has been sitting at the top of leader boards (number 2 last season) for best producing mare in era 3. I’m considering flushing her this season to get more grey into my herd (the greys are starting to age or test out) even though she’s not AGA my benchmark mare.
TP VI FB Yellowbird Bold
I’ve been dabbling in the 14’s for quite a few seasons and despite upgrading to two boosted Langfur studs, haven’t made progress. I decided to mass test and cull my mares and after pasture breeding will liquidate a good portion of them. I would love to get solidly into the 14’s and may need to try to double boost a stallion.
I would love to get back to my own original bootstrap boy Sparta so this season I’m going to put him in with the girls and hope for a superior colt that I can try double boosting.

Breeding Warmbloods of superior quality that suit my fancy! -
Wow, it seems everyone is making huge progress as far as breeding ability, PT scores and interesting genes go.
I've lately started boosting and double boosting myself, as I wasn't seeing any further rise in breeding quality (I have everything set out in 1% brackets). I still haven't had a non-boosted horse compare any better, but my percentage of top bracket horses and my PT scores have all gone up by a large margin.
I just cloned my previous best PT colt, and the resultant baby came out what I believe to be the first 15.0 horse on this server.
Jack Frost 7313846
He'll be getting his own boost too to join the 'double boosted' club. He represents all of the main genes I've worked on from the beginning, while I have another boy who brings up to standard all the major genes I started working on later:
Hercules BS142
I have bloodlines tracing to a lot of influential players and it's nice to see my visions when starting this game all come together. The competition is fierce but setting and meeting my own goals have always made breeding satisfactory. @Kismet has a very good point about the insane costs of such an operation, but happily the offspring my bootstraps have produced over the years are paying most of the bills. -

@pestilenttempest I'm sure there is just a huge amount of luck involved with PT scores, especially since all my previous clones came out with lower PTs than their originals. I was initially all focused on breeding ability and didn't bother much about PT scores, but since I'm not managing any more improvement on that front I've started paying more attention to the performance inspection.
@HTRanch Seeing how far one can get without boosting might be a much harder challenge. I didn't start using boosts until recently, but a lot of my stock's ancestors were boosted already so I suspect if I weed them out there'll be nothing left to work with. -
Just had to share. Thanks to @pfrsue's generosity, I bred her handsome Snowfall to my Benchmark mare. I gave the foal a 5% boost and then cloned him, then made the clone perfectly consistent. All he needs now is another 5% boost and I think I'm in business! Well worth all the hb's spend to get him all his upgrades!

I've totally been almost totally ignoring my barns for months other than to pull foals and basic tests but I do have some nice boys. I just learned about double boosting in this thread and I may need to do some myself.
Currently, my highest PT stud is 14.5
NaF Battle Hymn AGA
I think I'm going to double boost this guy and add the KitM he missed.
7264066 boost
I'm way behind on comp testing my girls. My current highest PT mare is also 14.5
NaF Glory in the Hymn.
I just boosted this girl (and might double boost her b/c then I'd have 2 pretty girls)
NaF Dreams of Destruction
The 2nd mare after a boost is testing AGA the 1st unboosted mare.
I need to work on getting some more bling (non-fantasy) back into the herd. For quite awhile several gens back I had a ton of hom KP and high white mares and was ending up with all 'white' foals but now I'm getting solid or mostly solid (KitM) with satin. I have managed to bring up most of the height and bone weight of my herd after originally starting with 2 DarkStar stallions (one of them was a sport pony and the other a shorter WB). -
Have to admit I've kind of been ignoring my bootstraps recently, but this thread is making me want to get back into it more!
Trying to slowly eradicate dun from my lines (harder than expected with one of my pasture boys being het for dun and always seeming to throw het foals too lol), so here are the boys I chose out of this year's bunch!

Best of gen this year! And he's a leopard too!

Stars Brave Watch

Stars Brave Thickets
Not 100% sure yet if I'll keep this boy around, but definitely not counting him out yet.
Stars Silver Schism
The only thing I don't like about this little guy is his PT score...and if I didn't already have so many GMT projects lol he'd be on my list.
And then as for my older boys, I've been wanting to change it up a bit but I'm unsure which to swap into my pasture:

As I'm getting into the higher generations now, these lines may be turning into a bootstrap line now, and this may well be their sire. He's the highest star I've ever bred. I'm beyond excited about him. He's an even bred 5th generation that is about as good as Cheer's even bred 6th generation star boy that is the sire of my Day of the Moon bootstrap lines. I've yet to get a superior stud to her stud. (At least from my Day of the Moon mares, I have one from a higher level Gold mare.) I'm not 100% sure what his true number is, since I don't have a benchmark that is high enough to test him against. Im really excited to see what he's going to be able to do. I'm setting aside mares for him now. Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated if going forward with his lines! I know I don't have mares that can keep up as of yet. -
Also, I need help naming him!

@cheval I’d be happy to sell you a colt at breeding cap to test against your boy for create price :) I’ve got loads of them. I’m terrible with names though! I would love some straws to play with if you sell them :)
Also as far as my month goes, I got my first natural born 15 pt, and his clone got a few extra pts for 15.3
Boot Shadows of Doubt
Also got a cute fantasy bootstrap boy at breeding cap! He’ll be boosted. :) my fantasy boots are just getting to 13 pt so hopefully by next check in I’ll have some higher pts.

@pestilenttempest I would really appreciate that! Thank you! I have a decent guess at where he is, but I'm not 100% sure. You're more than welcome to straws when he comes of age! :) I'm in the bootstrap chat, if that would work? Just put him up for whatever you want. I'll pick him up. I really appreciate it. :)
You're boys are gorgeous! ❤️. My fantasy boys haven't reached that nice of a PT yet, but I'm working on it! They're about to get switched to bootstrap lines as well. I'm at G5 with them finally too. (I'll keep up with the G1 to get my ultra gene mixes and breed those up still. I really like sparkling pixel ponies.) :) -
Got a good Lessons colt! Might boost him as well as add the dfp1 back to help things along even further.
Burden of Knighthood sup
And this filly is just the stunner and should cross well with him

They're both drool worthy!Thanked by 1Wildland Acres -
I came out of this season with a stallion and 50+ mares with AFPT of 13 or more. I kinda want ro throw them all together, but i don't want to mix my era 0 boots with my era 3 boots. :-))#28036

I haven't bred my pastures yet due to some major reorganizing, but I am incredibly happy with my newest stallion. He's my second boost/clone/boost, and only has a few foals on the ground, but he's done very well! :)

I now have a new double boosted boy. I boosted, cloned, and boosted the clone (and did some GMTing to both after).
Original copy (now with KitM and a S+):
NaF Royale Mystery
Clone (with KitM):
NaF Royale Outlaw
Outlaw tests as superior to all of my other BS boys and has a higher PT than his original copy.
