I know a few of you out there also breed tiny ponies, I'd love to see yours!

I'm very excited to have bred two 12h ponies this year!

This is the tiniest one I've bred so far at 12.3 but I'd love to see his line start getting smaller.

@CeffylDwr ooh so shiny! And at second generation! I don't think I've had any smaller than 12.3 at 2G, but Lucky is a 12.3 x 12.3 product :)

Very cute ponies, all! To those who do breed for tinies, do you have a method? Height cutoffs? Certain techniques that give you shorter foals?

I have height cutoffs, mostly. Foundations-G2 can be no taller than 15 hands. Their descendants must be shorter to go into my tinies line, and I strive for under 14hh at G2-G3. I like most of my main breeding cobs to be between 13-13.3hh anyway, so sometimes those guys will throw a foal in the 12hh range that goes into the tinies herd.

Occasionally I will GMT a horse to be the shortest it can go, if it meets my gene requirements too.

And when I have some taller mares, I will use my shortest stallions to try to bring that height down in the next gen.

I mostly use height cutoffs (which helps keep my breeder numbers down, too!) although, I'll admit that if I breed or create a pony that I really like and is a little tall sometimes I'll keep it intact.

When I am creating ponies, I only keep the 13.2h ones in tact, unless it is something special that I really want. As I go down the lines, breeding two short ponies together seems to be most likely to give me the tiny ones. For example, both of the 12h ponies that I bred this year resulted from 12.3 x 12.3 crosses.

I don't particularly breed for height, but I've been making my cobs shorter and heavier bit by bit, and I have some at the minimum height:

@HTRanch My height cut off is 13 hh for my foals. 12.3 is good, 13 goes in the auction. Since I also breed for color I throw out any foals with pearl or cream, save for a single line that I keep around for fun. In addition, I breed for weight as well so all my foals have to come in at 1.50 or under. I have been breeding littles for almost as long as I´ve been on hj, so I have made my restrictions more stringent over time.

I breed for heavy regardless of height. My bootstraps have even less rules than my evens. This is the smallest I've bred recently.
