Am I Doing Something Wrong?
-
I let my premium run out, so I can’t use eggs anymore. But last season and this season, when not using eggs, it seems as though almost none of my foals pass BA.
This season only 1/4 of them have passed so far.

The parents are all matching in paper and generation, last year I even had two mares in pasture for the full time and they still produced non passing foals. Am I missing something? -
Honestly I’d say you just haven’t bred enough foals this year.
Also sometimes you just have bad days. If I’m hand breeding and I either start getting too many colts or they all start failing BA then I take a break from breeding and come back either later that day or a couple days later.Thanked by 1Ammit -
@BlaxkDiamond thank you! I’ll try taking a little break before continuing. But in your experience, this is normal for the amount of foals bred?
-
Yah id say it is. Out of the 8 foals I bred, only 2 passed BA, now I’m going to SBA them so I probably won’t even be able to keep the two that passed. But hey more show ponies.

@BlaxkDiamond thank you! That makes me feel a little better about it, here I started thinking my horses just weren’t of quality!
-
Lol the quality horse’s usually have a harder time producing foals of equal or superior quality in my experience.
-
Yes I’m lucky to get one that passes out of 10, and typically they don’t pass my requirements. I expect to use about 30 eggs before I get a passing sba + superior without boosting.
My 100 foundation pasture usually only produces 2-3 keeper mares per season. But I’m super strict. ^_^ -
@BlaxkDiamond @pestilenttempest I never expected it to be so difficult, I was using eggs so it seemed like most the time more passed, but I guess that’s because I had more tries lol. Thank you both!

What kind of breeding are you comparing it to? Lab horses do have better pass rates than live cover but it is not specific to eggs.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

@Ammitt I was comparing it to eggs/straws vs stallion/mare (don’t typically use straw/mare too often). But that would make sense if it has better odds, plus the fact it gives more tries per pairing
-
Lab breeding is any times more expensive, so the expectation is that people doing live cover are going to be doing way more of it.Need to contact me? Read this first.
