Gmting decision question
-
With the new gmt lab sales I wanted to reevaluate my plans for creating a predecessor of my foundation stallion Downfall of death. Originally my plan was to use a Bronze Age herd helper that would hopefully come up in December and gmt it but that would mean having to gmt 4 strands instead of 2 and the Bronze Age may not even come up in December or my other option I could do is to use the freaky Friday create for the base of my project and boost him to what a Bronze Age is and use the sales now to start my project. The only problem with creating him now is that my stallion isn’t at risk of aging out for a couple months. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do?

If you created him now, you would have plenty of time to GMT him to how you want.BlueJumpingBean 28718

I would make next week's Friday a yearling and GMT him, that way you have time to Gmt and you buy time to use your favorite stud without competition.
Or you could gmt both and combine next weeks with this week and have a boosted chimera. I would still make the next one a yearling, and use him as the base horse.45120 -
You could also start gmt a freaky Friday, any age, now and then in December, create a yearling B papered and create a chimera with the B papered as the base. That would give you a yearling B papered colt in December. You could gmt the B papered colt before merging or just gmt it so the freaky Friday strand is 100%.
I hope i'm making sense there.#28036 -
@Haltanny it does make sense but I didn’t know if you merged them you could choose one of the horses to take over both dna strands, is that what you are saying? Or would I have to gmt them both separately and then merge? But that is a really good idea to merge so I think I’m going to do that!
And thank you everyone else for your input, it was very helpful!ID# 45123 -
It's a good idea to keep in mind that a foundation horse that is already chimera/brindle cannot be merged with another horse to make a brindle. I do think merging could be a fun idea, but you'll have to be careful who you intend to merge together. That being said... Once you have a chimera/brindle you can GMT a specific strand to pass on a certain percentage of the time.Love,

You could gmt both separately and then merge or gmt one strand to pass 100% of the time. For example, the mare linked below was a c papered Rank Special that i merged with a B papered expro and then adjusted the the inheritance of the rank special's DNA, which is the second one on this horse, to be 100%. So basically for breeding, it's just a b papered version of the rank special.

@Haltanny oh wow ok I didn’t know you could do that, that’s super cool! So when you merged those two which one did you make the main one?ID# 45123

The expro was the base, because i wanted that paper level, body type, etc. The Marzipan stolen was the one i merged into it for color, then adjusted to 100% inheritance of the Marzipan dna.#28036Thanked by 1GeneverGinger

@Haltanny Ok that makes sense, how much does it cost to do that? Sorry for all the questions but thank you so much for being so helpful!ID# 45123
