What does this mean?
  • I now this is new but I have been off the game a bit so can someone explain what White Factor: Light Chimerism Detected Inheritance Chance 50% is? Thanks :D

  • Chimerism is the change that was made to Brindle. So now there is two separate gene sets that can be color tested and your horse has a 50/50 chance of which set of DNA it can pass on to it's babies.
    Dabbler in EVERYTHING.
  • Ok but it's not a brindle?

  • So, instead of brindles we now have chimeras which represent two foals merged in utero. This means that every chimric horse has two sets of genes.

"Chimerism Detected" replaces the old "Brindle Detected" that used to show up on brindles after the WF note.

"Inheritance Chance 50%" tells you that any offspring from this horse has a 50% chance of inheriting either set of DNA strands from the chimeric parent. This can be changed in the GMT lab so if you prefer one DNA set over the other in a chimera you can make it 100% inheritable instead.

  • @BlackWyld you explained it better though!

Stefliz he is a "brindle" but now the game just lists the names of both gene sets instead of saying Brindle in the color name and it's not as obvious in how his color plays out cause his two gene sets are pretty similar just one side is hom SW1 the other is only Het

  • Ok but if one dosen't look like a brindle like this one? Is it still a brindle?

  • As long as it shows two sets of DNA it is a brindle (now called Chimeras) so see how Dark Slate shows a Primary and a Secondary set of DNA/Genes now instead of just one set, that means it's a Chimera/Brindle and it will say Chimerism Detected in the gene breakdown if it's a Brindle.
    Dabbler in EVERYTHING.

  • Stefliz, It is pretty much the new brindle.
All the original brindle Herd Helpers that existed before now create chimeras instead. The "brindle" expression is different now too. In chimeras it really plays off the two sets of DNA strands so a chimera where the DNA strands are the exact same will not show much "brindle" expression at all, if any.

A good example of the original "brindle" The Blackest Nights vs the new ones that are now chimeric:

Without some white markings or other major difference on the two DNA strands you won't see much "brindle" expression at all on the new ones.

The neat thing though is Ammit has allowed for random genetic variance in a foundation chimera's two sets of DNA when rolled in the Create a Horse page.

You know how sometimes you can luck out rolling a TBN that had a copy of LP or Dun or Roan or such?
This can happen now in either or both DNA strands of the chimera.
A minor example is your Clean Slate who is Hom for SW1 on one set of DNA and not the other. The variance can sometimes be more drastic as seen in the below horses who are all Clean Slates:

  • Brindle is a phenotype (the way something looks). It is a pattern. Chimeria is a genetic state. Some chimeras are brindles, some are not. Some brindles are chimeras some are not. They are not the same thing.

  • I copy and pasted the "Brindle Detected" from the genetic testing results of the first Blackest Night above.
That is what seems to show up on the old brindles now instead of "Mosaic?"

  • Going along with the Brindle phenotype discussion, Stefliz, Ammit has also introduced Dun Factor Promoter which, when homozygous, interacts with Dun and Onyx horses to produce subtle brindle like markings.

The announcement with info on that gene is here:
