I'm posting the quiz and the answers here, for those who want to know how to find the correct answers! The intention of this contest was to help people learn how to use the different resources we have around HaJ (the searches, the forum, the FAQ, the Rules, the Genetics guide, etc) so hopefully posting the answers will also be helpful!
1. What is the longest color name you can find in your herd? (One point per word in the name)
The longest color name in your herd: use the search! A handy tip would be to select "must not have" under the dominant Gray allele (G) as a gray horse will not show any base color words in the color name.
2. What is the rarest (fewest living examples) Rank Special herd helper in the game?
Rarest rank special: You can find a list of all the rank specials in the game including the number of living horses and how many you own for each rank special and herd helper by clicking "My Stable>>Member Home" on the menu (your stable overview page). From that page choose "Account and Stable Management". Under "Account Management" click "My Herd Helper Collection."
3. How many living foals does a stallion have to produce to qualify for the Top Producer breeders' club awards?
A stallion must produce 10 living foals to qualify for the breeder's club boards. This answer can be found in the FAQ - click "Resources>>FAQ User Guide on the menu. You can also find this information in the forum in the "Basic Information for New Players" thread bookmarked at the top of the Announcements section.
4. Is the pangare gene (denoted by "p") documented, well-supported, or moderately-supported?
The pangere gene is "well supported" according to the Genetics Guide (Also located in the resources tab of the menu). The Genetics Guide will give you a more detailed and scientific overview of most of the genes in-game.
5. How old is the nd1 mutation?
The nd1 mutation is over 43,000 years old! This answer can also be found in the genetics guide.
6. It's time to tack up! Post a link below to one of your horses wearing a "plain stable halter," "tidy hunter braids," and a "pinwheel braided tail. (one point per correct tack item)
To put tack on a horse, go to the page of a horse you own and click the "Tack" tab all the way to the right above your horse's picture. From there, you will see drop-down menus for each tack pack you own or have access to. The boxes marked HEX to the right of each drop down menu allow you to change the colors of your tack by entering a 6-digit color code. Select a tack item for your horse and then make sure to click "Add tack item" below the menu to actually add the tack to your horse. You have to click "Add tack item" for every individual piece of tack you put on - otherwise it won't show. When you are done, refresh your horse's image using the prompted button or by clicking the little circle arrow below your horse's picture to see your new tack!
7. Time for a scavenger hunt! The horse in question is owned by breeder ID 43830. They carry 3 closed fantasy genes, are homozygous dominant for the gene that controls black/red pigment, and heterozygous for a gene that causes death in foals when homozygous. What is this horse's sex? (You will know you've found the right horse when the owner notes say "Congratulations! You have found the scavenger hunt horse!")
In order to find the first scavenger horse, we have to use the horse search, which is located under the Community tab in the menu. We can infer a few things about the horse from the clues: The horse carries closed fantasy genes, so will most likely be entered in the "fantasy" breeder's club, so we can type "fantasy" into the breeders club tab in the search. The "E" (black) gene controls black and red pigment, and the capital letter "E" is the dominant form of this gene, so we can select "must not have" for "e" on the base color search tab. Frame (Olw) is the only gene in game that is always lethal when homozygous, so we can select "must have" for both "Olw" and "-" on the "white markings" search tab. We are also given the owner ID for this horse, so we can type that into the "Owner ID" slot. That will narrow our search down to 3 pages of horses, and we can just scan for those that have 3 closed fantasy genes. This is the correct horse:
HT2 4B Ny B5 6390764
8. The second horse is also owned by HTRanch. They are old enough that they could age out at rollover at the end of September. They are sired by a horse named "Syzygy" and carry two different KIT genes.
In the owner's notes of the first scavenger hunt horse, you will find a second scavenger hunt! What is this horse's bone weight (in numbers)? (You will know you have found the right horse when the owner notes say "Congratulations! You have found the second scavenger hunt horse!"
Scavenger hunt number 2! If this horse is also owned by the same person (me), then they will have the same owner ID. Otherwise, you can find user's ID numbers by search for their username in the "Search Users" tab under "Community" in the menu. Since we know the name of the horse's sire, we can search for "Syzygy" using the horse name slot in the search. Simply doing that won't work though because the original Syzygy is deceased, so we also have to check the "deceased" tab in the search in order to find him. Once we find Syzygy, we can copy and paste his ID number into the "Sire ID" slot on the search page. (Don't forget to also input the owner ID we already had!) If the horse is old enough to age out at rollover, they must be at least 17 years old, so we can input the age as "greater than" 16. If the horse carries two different KIT genes, we can go to the "White Markings" tab of the search and select "must not have" for "-" under KIT Genes. This will narrow our search down to only one page of horses, and we can sort through until we find the scavenger hunt horse. This is the correct horse. Her bone weight can be found in the left-hand column of information under her picture.

Part 2 of the answers:
9. How many breeders clubs may a horse be entered in?
A horse may be entered in 4 breeders clubs. This can also be found in the FAQ.
10. You are considering cross between a stud who carries w10 and a mare who carries w2. If the foal were to inherit both of these white spotting genes, what is the risk of lethality associated with that combination?
KIT genes can be risky to breed together because the more white markings a horse has, the more susceptible they are to lethality (this mirrors real life). Ammit created a forum post about it here and there is also a handy-dandy chart with risk levels for each KIT combination located in the FAQ (under "helpful hints").
11. You are planning to cross a bay stallion (Ee Aa) with a chestnut mare (ee AA). What percentage of their foals will be chestnut? Is it possible to get a black foal from this cross?
To find the answer to this question, you can use a punnet square (hello, high school biology!) Information on how to draw and interpret punnet squares is located in the FAQ under "helpful hints". In this case, we know based on the Genetics guide that a chestnut horse has to be "ee" (homozygous recessive) because a horse with a dominant "E" will have black pigment. Based on our punnet square, foals will only inherit their sire's e gene 50% of the time, so only 50% of the foals will be chestnut. We can also draw a separate punnet square for the Agouti (A and a) genes carried by the parents (or if you are feeling adventurous you can do a 4x4 square for both the E and A genes). Because the mare is homozygous dominant for A, ALL of her foals, even if they have an "E" and are black, will inherit a copy of Agouti and thus end up bay. Therefore, a black foal is NOT possible from this cross.
12. Your mare's youngest living foal is 5 years old. Will she qualify for the breeder's club Top Producing awards?
Horses must have had a living foal in the previous two seasons to qualify for the breeder's club top producer boards. Therefore, if your mare's youngest foal is 5 years old, she will not qualify for the top producer boards.
13. You are choosing a breed name and would like to use the name "Fjord". Is this an acceptable breed name?
According to the Rules and the FAQ, you cannot use a name of a real life place or breed for your HaJ breed name. So the name "Fjord" would not be acceptable since it is a real life breed.
14. What is the breeding ability of an Exceptional Producing foundation?
An Exceptional Producing Foundation has 105% breeding quality. Perfect Foundations are described in their herd helper as having 100% breeding quality, so we at least know that an Exceptional Producer would have to be of a higher quality.
15. What is the scientific explanation for the MATP gene, and what are the common names for this gene (Hint: There are 2)? (2 points each for the explanation, and 1 point each for the common names)
The scientific explanations for in-game genes can again be found in the genetics guide. For this question, I was looking for the actual scientific process that causes reduced pigment in cream and pearl horses, NOT just the unabbreviated scientific name for the mutation.ID 43830
