  • Hey you amazing lady!
I missed you! Hope everything is going well!

A little prose about a particularly lovely morning:

The view of the valley from the top of the hill this morning was a vision of serene glory.
An amber sun was just rising behind the dark hill, shrouded in opal cloud.  It gilded the mist in warm dawn hues as it floated in the valley and snaked its soft, rippling way along the river.
    It was so beautiful.
It was an ephemeral vision that I drank in with my eyes and held in my heart and mind as one would hold spun sugar on the tongue.  Allowing it to slowly melt away of its own accord, leaving nought but a memory, a feeling, and lingering sweetness.

  • I have to go to work this morning. While it might not always be fun, I get to spend some time looking out of my window before I go. I sit here listening to the new Taylor Swift album, looking out at my chickens about to go lay their morning egg. The sun is reflecting on the trees bringing a bright light into the office. I can hear the neighborhood geese quacking from the neighbor's pond, they and their goslings are quite noisy. This moment of peace before heading to the bookstore to work is all I need in the morning.

  • Aww thank you both! All of your horses are posted. I appreciate this community so much and wish I could be on here more often. During school I was just so busy with school, and now my summer break isn't very "break" like, but I'm having a blast nonetheless.

My typical day looks like this
    Wake up at 6
Feed Lexi and get to my old trainer's barn by 7
Work for my old trainer until noonish.
Work for my Dad until 6ish.
Go back out to Lexi and ride until 8ish.
Grab dinner that's been left on the counter, and the tail end of the family movie.
    Bed by 10ish.

So actually I am doing quite well, and quite happy, but only get to do hj2 on the weekends, which is enough to somewhat enjoy my horses and sort them, but not really enough to be active in the community again.

  • I went for my first jumping lesson in about 10 years. I hadn't done any jumping besides logs on trails in the past 5 years, since I work for a dressage barn and my personal horse is older (18 or 19) with some minor soundness problems. I rode an OTTB who promptly picked up that I was nervous (I have had some accidents, and am in my 30's) over the "jumps" which were just a couple poles on the ground, so over jumped it, even though he is a beginner lesson horse. By the end we had done enough that I got a consistent and even canter over them. Hopefully next time we will make it to the point where I am actually jumping on purpose.

Hope your days get shorter! Horses always make for long days.

  • While I am not wealthy (my bank account is crying it's so low!)... It's a dream of mine to get a horse and become a show jumper. While that's not currently able to be done, I would love to find a horse from a rescue or "save" one of the free one's from Craigslist and keep it at a local barn or lease/rent a field or something. I make enough a month to house a horse at a stable, or a field if one was for lease/rent cheaply enough. I can afford the food, and know I could work hard enough to be able to save money for a vet bill if one was needed (they're horses, vet bills are always there). I would love to have a Tennessee walking horse (I do not agree with the abusive riding most people do with them). I love them so much. I used to have one, but he passed a few years ago around the age of 5, after I moved. They may not be the most attractive of breeds, conformation wise, but they're still lovely horses to me. I also wouldn't mind just leasing a horse to ride/learn show jumping on. I almost had one a few years ago, but she was over an hour away from me, and they'd found someone else closer. While greys are my favorite color, I'd be happy with any color/pattern if I rescued it.
In the long run, I'd love to be able to buy a place (with a house), that had a pasture, and possibly a barn. I'm dreaming, but I'd love it. I'm seriously considering the rescuing a horse thing, and boarding at a nearby stable, but I'd likely have to get a second job. A friend is a substitute teacher, and the elementary school nearby pays $100 a day, and I could work on my own time, basically, but it's been heck actually getting anything completed (as in the application). It's all online, and I've twice filled out the application, and they've asked me to do something else that I can't figure out, and my friend won't help me. She just tells me it's on the page, do it. But I can't. I've tried. And she's the only person I know that could help me do it, or would know what to do. I guess I'll keep dreaming of a horse until it happens. :-<

  • Thank you all for sharing! I enjoy hearing from everybody!

    @PeppermintC

Oh wow! Congratulations! I've always loved jumping my entire life, but have not really gotten to do it much besides an odd thing here and there, but because I'm home right now the trainer's are a little bit cheaper and since I've been working so hard I've had some money to go to a jumping lesson once a week, and this will be the third week this week, so I'm very excited! I work for a paint horse trainer. There's good and bad since I'm going to have to be at school in about 2 weeks, but things are winding down at the paint trainer because she found someone full time finally, but I'm housesitting for the hunter jumper trainer for a week.

    @SpryofJune

Oh wow! I definitely wish you luck with that! I'm sure you've heard of the 80 dollar champion? My mom had a Tennessee walking horse when I was a baby and he was super cool. I really commend you for your willingness to adopt something! Although really any rescue could work the OTTB's do amazingly well, and I follow some successful mustangs. My friend bought a mustang for 15$ the other day. Although honestly I don't understand why more hunter jumper people haven't figured out that paints can do really well on the hunter jumper circuit as well! I have a paint mare who is 17hh and she LOVES jumping and the highest I've dared to jump her and she still doesn't feel maxed out! I see low four figure paints all the time that would do perfectly well show jumping. So I definitely wish you luck. And there is for sure nothing wrong with half leasing. I likely would not be able to keep my horse unless I had found someone to lease her, and likely I will have to find someone when I return to school. Which don't listen to me on financial advice, because my Mom just bought another horse. :)

  • I have heard of him. I love him. At any rate, I love paint horses, have owned many in my life. I'm mostly wanting to adopt/rescue currently just to get my feel of what I'm doing again. That's one reason that I also figured I'd look at nearby free, cuz it's it's somewhat a rescue, to me.

  • So, i'm just gonna write about what I'm thankful for, cause really, who doesn't need some thankfulness. I'm so happy I get to wake up every day next to my hunny. He's had some serious health issues going on, but he's still here with me. We've been together 17 years, and sometimes it still feels like the first date just never ended. I'm thrilled my son is doing good supporting himself out in the real world. Even with covid he's working and keeping his bills paid. I'm so grateful my roommate stepped up and became my best friend over the last couple years. She has supported me so hard since I lost Nat, and I hope I'm as good a friend. I'm seriously thankful that most of my family has remained healthy. And let's not forget Ammit. Without whome I wouldn't know any of you, or have a place to spend all my imaginary, and some real, money when I need to stress shop for something pretty. Thank you Universe.

  • Since classes are starting up for me next week, I'll go ahead and write about that!

I am a college student who is currently finishing their third year in community college. While I have been taking many classes and learning many new things about different subjects and myself, I have also grown to accept that I will not be able to carry out my dream of working in the animal science field. A major in biology or anything related to the animal sciences requires many upper level math and science courses, and my whole life I have struggled greatly with math and chemistry. Luckily I discovered that I have a newfound passion for anthropology, due to how it has so many different branches and how it delves much deeper into human cultures and how they came to be, something that history always lacked for me. In previous semesters, I was required to take a few anthropology classes to meet the humanities standards, as well as to gain enough credits to remain a full time student for that semester. I never expected dabbling in this new subject would open so many doors for me. This semester and the next will be my last at the community college and I am so happy to begin learning this new subject and by doing so I will be taking a huge step forward in my life.

I'll go ahead and just take this girl if she is still available!

  • Wow! Thank you for sharing! I am also a college student, so I always enjoy hearing about how it is going for other people in college! I am glad that you found anthropology and hope that it continues to open doors for you.

  • Thank you so much for the well wishes and the opportunity to add new horses to my stable, I greatly appreciate it!
  • Thank you so much for hosting!

I bought my first show goat last year, a Nigerian Dwarf doeling, and it's been great watching her grow up and training an animal from the ground up rather than taking an adult and working with it. Her name is Hera, and we go on hikes together, too! She doesn't like our other goats and prefers to spend time with me, but she's cute so I don't mind haha. She's clicker-trained, too, and we entered our first show (a virtual one due to covid) this past summer. We got to move back into the barn she stayed in last year, too (it shut down at the beginning of covid but is getting back up and running now) and she's loving getting more interaction now.

Would it be possible to get these guys? Thank you!

I am going to write a paragraph about one of the times I got thrown off a horse.

So one day I was riding this gelding named Gritz(very spooky horse). So I was one of my lease days and I was cantering him around. I do Hunter/Jumper so there was a jump and a pole next to us and all of sudden Gritz heard a Squirrel jumping from tree to tree and gritz threw me into the pole and the jump. I got back on and cantered him once more and then I was done for the day. It REALLY hurt!!!!!

If it still going I would like these guys:

  • I would love to join this!

We have six horses at home, two mustangs and four quarter horses. Shoe-string is our bay gelding mustang, he is six years old and he loves treats and his jumbo sized soccer ball. He is a very goofy boy who absolutely loves to eat. He is a very food motivated boy, he is definitely something special. He will take a hat off of someone's head and likes to toss around pool noodles.

We also have our other mustang Easy, he was completely wild when we got him - he is a three year old from maverick medicine. He has the most gorgeous mane and tail with the waves in it. He has soft eyes and a big heart. He is a super food motivated horse as well, he has got a blaze in his face and he has white socks. Easy and shoestring are buddies and they play in the pasture together.

We also have the four retired quarter horses - peewee, paint, cooper, buddy. They were all used for roping at one time but they are all over 20 years old. Peewee was the horse I learned to ride on and buddy was my brothers horse, he got hurt so he has to have medicine if your going to ride him. Paint is a go getter even for his age, he has got the biggest heart. Cooper is moms horse, he still gets rode some but not hard.

  • Ok there is so many cute show ponies so I need to write another paragraph!

So right now I am leasing the cutest little pony named Chachi! Chachi is a black pony gelding with a blaze and one blue eye and one party eye! Every time you come up to him he whinnies under his breath because he thinks you have treats ( I usually do)!!! He whinnies under his breath because he doesn't want the drafts, big horses(at least to him) and Freasian( soon Freasians because there is a new mare coming and in 2021 a foal) try to steel his treats!!! Also when you canter on him he is so easy to sit on and also his jump feels like you are flying!!! Thanks!

  • Love the ones I got before so I just have to get some more!

I got hermit crabs a few months ago, and my mid-size one, Druk, went down to molt a couple of weeks after I got them. He came up a few weeks ago but I just saw him eating and then haven't seen him since. Earlier this week, I noticed a spare shell halfway across the tank from my other shells inside a hole one of them must have dug halfway under a pillar decoration I have. I was doing tank maintenance about an hour ago and, when I picked up the decoration to put the shell back with the others, lo and behold I found Druk! He's much brighter (and slightly bigger) now, and his two legs that were missing the bottom parts have grown back. He was super excited to see me too and explore the new setup.

Could I get the following please? Thank you!

  • So many cute ones! I will write about the time I went to Ireland for 2 weeks.

So in 2018 me and my family went to Ireland for 2 weeks. So we went to a racing farm( forgot the name) and there they had foals and they were so cute! They also had the cutest little mini horse who looked like 4 hands tall and looked like it could have climbed out of his pasture if there wasn't the hot wire in between the wood fence wood. There was also Beef Or Salmon! A famous race horse in Ireland. I love his name! I got to pat him and there were some other famous ones I forgot there names but I also patted. I didn't get to pat the foals because they were farther away but one and her mom did come close but not touch close. But it was really fun! Could I get these please? Thanks!
