Mare and Stallion AFPT's
  • Hey guys im curious about when you think its good to judge and mare or stallion afpt that if they are good breeding stock or not. I know to get on the board its 10 foals for a stallion; 3 foals for a mare. So would you judge them at those numbers or would wait for 25 more foals on the stud and 10 more foals on the mare to judge if they are good or not
All foals not meeting my standards automatically gelded / spayed, if you see anything you want pm me before I geld/spayed.
    Breeding Projects
Bays, Bay Duns, Chestnuts, Double Nexus Rainbow Riot Nacre, Grullo's, Blue Roans, Brown Duns, Red Roans & Dun, Gray Riding Horses and Warmbloods

    Officially Owned Genes
Axiom Blue, Axiom Green, Axiom Red, Chinchilla, Mushroom, Onyx Dun, Nacre, Watercolor, Wrong Wrap, Ice 3 6 13 16
  • The more foals the more accurate the results but it used to be common to use 3+ foals to figure out AFPT
Breeding even generation Grullos with Ice
  • So using the top 10 and top 25 is the beat way to judge you think?

  • I would use all of the foals PT’s a horse has. The lowest and highest could just be lucky/unlucky roll of the dice

  • I normally start looking at my mares when they hit 10 years old. That allows enough time for there to be replacements for mares I decide are not up to par. Studs I look at when they are 7-8.
