Pasture Breeding Leaving Unbred Mares
  • I bred three pastures today using the breed all pastures function and noticed that not all mares are getting bred, despite being of age. If I hit breed pasture again, the remaining mares drop their foals normally.

I already rebred the first pasture, but here's the second. Aside from removing the foals and stallion (before I realized what happend) I haven't touched it after the first breeding:

23 mares dropped foals, and 6 did not.

    Same here: https://hj2.huntandjump.com/member.php?uid=42860&p_id=32967&sp=y
25 mares foaled and two did not.

  • I had the same issue. Had to keep hitting the breed all pastures button a few times for everyone to breed. Still have one somewhere that says she's breedable, but she won't breed...

  • I have had similar experiences since I started where I would have to hit the breed all pastures button at least twice to get them all bred.
I also noticed now that when my pastures auto-breed on the 14th some pastures breed most of the mares and in other pastures I will see only 20 odd out of 200 bred even though there are enough studs and everyone is of age.

Always looking to buy B/Red foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.

I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me.
  • I believe that the pastures only breed a certain number of mares at once to avoid overloading the server. I think it is 200, but I could be wrong.

SpryOfJune, the way to find your unbred mare is to do a search for your unbred mares with the any pasture button clicked.

  • It's 500 bred at a time, so if you have more than 500 in pastures you will have to hit the button again.

  • Yup, limit to prevent overloading the server. Just breed one pasture at a time if you are hitting issues with it.

  • Oh, I had no idea!
    Thanks! :)

I guess it is also a hint that I have too many horses. :-))

  • Weird, I'd never noticed that before. The number of mares exposed to stallions was far under that limit, but I take the point since there are over 500 breedable pastured mares overall.

That's going to make me rethink if and how I use Best of Pasture. Oh well. C'est la vie.

    Thanks for the information!

  • Yeah it totally screws BoP for those of us with more than 500 mares in pasture regardless of how few have stallions in with them. Drives me nuts.
  • I try to switch which line I test for best of pasture according to which needs a replacement stud. I do wish I had more BIP mares, but I'll get there. :)
  • Yes I always just use the Breed This Pasture instead, then they all get bred and I just do it pasture by pasture. I don't bother looking for best of pasture any more
  • The other thing to remember is that stallions can only live cover 50 mares per season.

  • I have the same issue in my single pastures. Normally have to hit the breed pasture button twice.
