    I used one on this mare because she was another one I needed to GMT and it let me GMT her. Can I not edit horses that aren't foundation?

    You can only change genes on lined horses if the parents could have produced those genes. You can't add an 'outside' gene. What gene(s) were you trying to modify?

    The second mare is foundation, and has no foals, so she is eligible for gene modification.

    I was going to take off an E and an A so she wouldn't be the same one both sides (as in color name) when it wouldn't let me do that I tried other genes and nothing would let me. Kept saying something like your mare has a - alelle and can't be edited or something. I don't exactly remember sorry it was late. Honestly I guess it's not a big deal I love her but I thought it was a little weird and I used my GMTs because I had other projects so I can't look now

    It's due to her parents. Red Onyx is homozygous A, so it's not possible for him to produce a non-bay alleled foal. The mom is homozygous E, so it's not possible for her to produce a red based foal.

    This pairing will always produce a foal with e/E A/a, or bay base.

    Also Red Onyx is homozygous for almost all of his genes, the only ones not are pangare and Kit. The mom is also homozygous for most of her identified genes with Splash being the only one that could be edited. So any modifications to foals from this pairing are very limited in what is changeable.

    Ok thank you I just thought it was weird. I had never gotten something like that its not a big deal obviously I just like to change my brindles to make them unique
