I have a job interview this week.. *I was hired!*
  • I need some major help guys.

I have bad crippling anxiety. I applied to a bunch of different stores, got two callbacks, one fell through, and the other didnt go amazing.. well, i broke down and applied to McDonalds last night (im not a huge fan of the fast food industry because of my anxiety) and immediately got an interview. I'm so beyond elated to even have a chance, but I dont know how to properly act during the interview (this is only the second one ive ever done), I was never really taught or told what to expect. I have almost zero work experience (minus a short internship, a little volunteer experience, and the fact that i have been paid under the table to take care of two special needs children). I got two letters of recommendation from old teachers, i plan on writing out what I did during the internship/what my duties were.. But honestly, im terrified that ill mess it up somehow. I dont know what else to bring, what questions I should write answers for, what to expect..

Is there anyone out there that can give me some tips on how to stay sharp during the interview, what to bring, or what questions i should look over?

If this isn't allowed here lemme know and ill edit my post :)
  • I moved this to the Saddle Sisterhood. The Help Me Out category is usually for questions about the game, but no worries.

  • Remember that a job interview is as much about you seeing if you want the job too. If alarm bells go off, you're not locked in yet and you can still turn down an offer. Prepare to answer some questions like "What makes you suitable for this job?" or "What skills do you have that will be valuable to this position?" It's McDonalds, they're prepared to get answers like "I would like a paycheck, thank you," or "I can walk," but it's good to practice interviews for when you find something you really want to do.

If you don't have a resume yet, keep it to one page. Start with the most recent, most pertinent experience first and then count time backwards. If you need to fill it out, you can add volunteer hours.

    Good luck! :)>-
  • Pick some things you are good at, and work to push those qualities to the forefront. I always have a few traits I excel at so I try to demonstrate those qualities at the interview. My go too’s are professional, dependable, loyal, hardworking. Professional? Dress professionally, have some questions ready, have a pen and paper for notes. Dependable? Show up early for the interview. Loyal? Every job or work experience I put on my resume I worked there for at least a year, I also never speak poorly about anybody I know or have worked with/for in the past. Hardworking? I choose references that truly like and know me well, and who have also seen me work my hardest. Those are just examples but it gives you a place to start and an image to push.

Another thing to think of is putting your faults in a good light. Possible Question “what are you bad at?” Possible answer “I’m afraid of failing or disappointing people, so I always work my hardest to do the best to my ability.” That’s an honest answer, that also pushes a good quality.

I honestly think you will be fine. :)

  • If you are struggling with making a resume and you are still in school, reach out to see if there is someone who can help you put that together! Even if you are an alumni, reach out. I know my school still allows alumni to use career support services at any point after graduation.

If you are struggling to find words to communicate your strengths or to put a positive spin on your weaknesses, ask a trusted, supportive friend. (Bonus points: ask in person or over the phone so you get the extra affirmation of hearing them say nice things about you, to you).

RoseFlute had a really good point: remember that you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. You have the power to decide whether or not this is a good place for you!

  • Dress for the job you are trying to get. Most jobs = black pants and shoes, dressier top, no skin.

    Good luck!

  • Sorry @ConfluenceFarms. I didn't realize that was the category that I posted in

Thanks guys! I did have a pretty decent resume (I think) considering i dont have much background at all. I took all of your guys words to heart..

I went in for the interview. It was really unprofessional and short but the manager was sweet. I did feel uncomfortable there. The lady said that they didnt have any positions available at that specific location, but she would pass my info around.

Which leads us to yesterday. I submitted two applications to two different burger king, and a couple hours later I called the manager at one of them and she was extremely polite. We talked for a bit, she ended up setting a meeting today at 10. And..

I was hired! She didnt even ask me the normal interview questions (Who are you, why do you wanna work here, etc). We literally just talked about her children, i told her I was a 2020 graduate, what the job entails, and then she paused mid sentence and was like "you're hired, by the way-" and continued on.

Im going to drop off my food handlers card tomorrow, im gonna set up my online account, and i should be getting my schedule soon after! :)

  • Burger King is my favorite. I can't eat meat, and I love their impossible Burger since I'm also allergic to peas. Wrap that baby up in lettuce (I also can't have bread -my diet seriously sucks) and happy days!
