  • If you are added to a private chat in order to purchase a horse is it then proper etiquette to leave the chat afterwards or are you allowed to stay?

What about renaming purchased horses? I've always wondered but didn't think to ask until now.

  • I try to make sure I leave the chat after picking up my horses, but only after I say thank you. It’s totally fine to rename purchased horses so they fit your needs.
  • I will rename them. But I try to rename them something similar or from something in their pedigree. I leave the tattoos alone. I won't use my tattoo on a horse bred by someone else.

As for the chat's I have wondered that myself for awhile.

  • In mine, i don't care if people stay, or evenif they use it themselves. If i need the room again, i just remove the extra people.

As far as renaming, i only change prefixes so i know generation and paper level. I no longer sell studs I've used when i don't need them anymore because it messes up my pedigrees when people rename them, but other horses i don't care if they rename.

  • Like haltany I don’t small horses I’ve used for breeding.

I also rarely rename a horse unless I really don’t like it but that’s more because I have a backlog of my own horses to give names to other than their prefix and ID #.

For chats I don’t care if people stay in I tend to only have one or two people in at a time and kick everyone out when I add a new person. I tend to remove myself from chats if I start getting alerts and they aren’t for me

  • I usually try to remember to say thank you and leave private chats after I have picked up my horses unless I know that I will probably be doing business with the individual again soon, then I will stay and leave it up to them if they need to remove me.
In my own chats I don't care if people chose to leave right away or stay. I will just remove them if I need to.
I have a chat for general sales that I don't remove people from at all and at least one private chat for sales that I want to guarantee are secure.

I will rename horses but I usually try to keep the name similar to what is in the pedigree.
If I sell a horse I don't mind if a person renames it. Most of the horses I sell are not named anyway.

  • Thanks guys. I normally just add a generation number to horses I buy, unless they never had a name to begin with.
Good to know about the chats too. :) I've been staying in them if they have lots of members or if I tend to buy horses from that particular owner often.

  • If I buy from a person, 9/10 I will end up doing business with them again so I stay. Draft breeders are kinda hard to find lol. As for renaming, I usually don't rename unless I seriously have to. e.g. the horse has random letters, numbers, and other jargon that means nothing to me and messes up my own organization process. Show horses don't get renamed. They get thrown in a show barn and periodically admired. That's it. If I do rename, I always hope the previous owner likes the new name. Haven't got a complaint yet.
Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

  • I have one chat that I share with anyone and everyone, I've never had to remove anyone from there. No problems yet! *fingers crossed*

For other chats I've joined or more often been added to, I leave it up to the owner. If they want me out for any reason, I don't mind. :)

As for the naming thing, I try to give horses I buy a name or at least a label unless I plan to sell them. Lots of folks rename when they buy anyway, so it saves me some wasted effort. lol If I buy one and they have a name most of the time I'll keep it unless the name seems kind of random or they have horses in their pedigree I want to be sure I don't forget about. I name most of my own for their bloodlines, so I do the same with ones I buy if they aren't already named that way.

  • I usually always leave after purchasing a horse. For my own chat room, i remove people before doing business with another player. I only like having the player i am selling to or buying from in my chat room when placing horses for sale so there is no chance of anything going wrong

  • It doesn't bother me if people stay in my sales chat, but I don't use it for talking or anything else and I just bump them out next time I need to make a private sale.

I usually leave a chat after picking up a horse for the same reasons. Also, I don't like having my chat room notifications get cluttered. But there are some chat rooms where the talking is half or most of the point, and I like hanging out in those until I get overwhelmed with too many notifications, and clean up my chat list. :)

For re-naming horses, I usually remove other people's personal codes (for line or generation or whatever) and add my own, but I keep the rest of the name the same, assuming they have one and I have enough character space. If they don't have a name, I like to use a play on their creator or pedigree names. But that's just for my own amusement.

I don't sell horses I've bred either, unless I am getting rid of a line or cutting it way down. Mostly, if I'm done breeding a horse I just snip it for show.
