What does watercolor look good with?
-
I currently lack funds for such but I like to plan for the future. Can anyone tell me how watercolor interacts with coat colors and such? I'd like to go ahead and plan a small herd to eventually inject watercolor into.Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

S+ in browns and silver blacks are my favourite way to go.
Brown S+ is by far more popular than silver black.
Though I breed silver black myself.ID# 47364

Always looking to buy B/Red foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.
I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me. -
If you want bolder colors, him sooty and Hom DP seems to be the trick. Though honestly I don't think watercolor goes wrong with any base color from what I've seen.
My SO is very into bold colors so when I decided to pull the trigger on watercolor, I wanted that boldness. My main line is also silver black pearl, but it wasn't giving me the look I wanted for watercolor. After spending some time in the GMT lounge, I ended up with this little guy that I love!

Yeah I'm trying to figure out where to start for bolder colors. I really like the blue and green shades I see. Is there a way to control the actual shades I get or is there a touch of randomness? But also what causes the full coloring versus the partial coloring?Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

The color you get is random, but you get the strongest shades with S+/DP and any form of agouti from what I’ve seen.

If you really want some fun colour variance adding Onyx is great too.

And if you want super bold I definitely reccomend nexus.

Ah. Okay. That's fun. I'll have to scope out what tickles my fancy. Thanks all.Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

@BlackWyld watercolor really complements anything that breaks up the silhouette. I didn't realize it's potential with nexus.Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

Has anyone combined watercolor and diamond sparkle yet?Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

Mad King is mine. :) He's a Chocolate Chinchilla with silver black base.
Mad Queen
This is Mad Queen. I'm not done with her yet, but I'm hoping to make her a brown chocolate watercolor. She might get sooty plus if I can save up the GMTs. -
So I added the brown to Mad Queen and liked it so much I added her brown to Mad King too. So they're both silver browns now.
-
I had seen Mad King elsewhere on the forum and he's what made me seriously consider picking up watercolor. As I figured, diamond sparkle looks perfect with watercolor.Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

:\"> I'm glad you liked him! Watercolor is really a fun gene to play with, and I love that it only takes one copy to show. That way you can still get regular colored horses as well as really fun colored horses.
-
Ha my shiny sparkles boy is up there! I didn't realize it was him and my mind was blown that somebody had a horse just like him :D I was actually planning on rerolling for a brighter color and was mildly disappointed in my misunderstanding of how axiom interacts with his other genes. But he'll throw interesting foals!
I have this guy on Mesa and I love him.

Yeah I'm definitely going to get watercolor are some point.
I'm trying to be more organized with my horses this time around. I know I need tons more pasture space, so once I get a bit more Hbs I'll try to buy some from someone. From there I start gene hunting. Depending on whichever is available sooner, I'll be going for thunderstruck or watercolor.Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

I second that watercolour is awesome with just about everything. Of all the fantasy genes it's one of my favourites because it always looks so unique and interesting - it's never one note or the same.
-
To me it's hard to go wrong with Watercolor. I just added it to my newest stud (he's a black liver without the watercolor)

I do love watercolor and Nexus. Throw some satin on there, and yum. This is my favorite of my fantasy stud of mine of all time. -
I'm in love with watercolor and ice 13. I have several running in my barn.

Really it’s all preference! I love all the horses shared here and you’ll notice mine are all over the place, because I end up adding a little of everything into the watercolor herd lol -
I like the blues, purples, and teals the best. I also have an assortment of shades of pink and green with a few other strange colors. I started my Watercolor line with a pair of Vault of Stars so I'm working on removing the w1 and frame from the line because I'm getting too many white horses.
I don't usually cross my Fantasy genes except Nexus, Wrong Warp and the open Ice genes but I do have a few Wrong Warp Watercolors with this one being the coolest:

I think I just got a candidate for watercolor. I'm gonna put at least one copy of DP and some Sty+ on him. Now to gather hbs and wait for it to come around again.Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.
