Every year, for about a decade now, our amazing community has hosted a Christmas gift exchange. This was a labor of love completely organized and sorted by hand. The members who put it on have changed over the years but they have never missed a year, and their actions have added significantly to our community. Each year the event gets bigger and with hundreds of entries this year I knew it was time to step in and officially support the event

In preparation for Christmas time, I am creating a built-in gift exchange system, and we are going to get all the kinks out of the system this summer. It will work just like the normal exchange but instead of messaging your entry to someone, you will fill it out on the website.

There are three participation levels: 25,000 hbs, 250,000 hbs and 2.5 million hbs. Normally everyone will start at the 25k level and unlock high levels as they participate in more exchanges. For this run, you can enter any/all levels you qualify for based on your barn size.

Entries close at the end of the month. So if you would like to participate, please sign up. The link is in the sidebar.

I have one question. If I wanted to do the third level but only make just over the show bonus limit right now, would my registration be canceled if it temporarily dropped below the limit at rollover?

I would like to participate. I know with my show bonus I will only be able to do probably the first one. If I keep earning can I do the others as well?

@Looper if you don't have it when they are assigned you won't qualify for that category. If you are right on the edge I would wait and do level 3 in December.

If you qualify for others you can join others.

Question: if I enter with one account this round, but come Christmas want to enter with a different one, would that account be automatically limited to the first level, even though I'm likely to pool resources from my accounts when it comes to gifting? (I'm guessing it would, since the system figuring out associated accounts sounds complicated, but thought I'd ask. :) )

If you enter with an account that has never participated in the gift exchange in December, that account will be limited to Level 1.

I was wondering, is there a way to simplify gifting a secret Santa a gene license? I know I always struggle trying to find ways to gift them to other players.

For example I ended up buying a lot of licenses “double” because I wanted it on the horse I was gifting but I struggled to get that horse to my secret santa on the day it came up on rgs.

So I can’t use fancy herd helpers unless I own them before secret Santa simply because I can’t wait for them to come out and hope both the player that is my secret Santa & a secret helper can be on that day to get the horse to them?

I don’t know if it’s even possible to make it easier but it definitely deters me from gifting others genes. Not sure if there could be a way to “transfer” the gene with the horse only for secret Santa/gift exchange. It’s probably way too difficult to implement. But I figured I’d ask. :)

You have to buy it on a horse they own.

Yea i know I just wish it was easier so I don’t have to spend double if I want my gift horse to have that gene. :) just wishful thinking. It’s why I won’t ever do the top dollar tier in gifting anymore because I want to give a foundation with new genes for them to play with and it’s just too hard to accomplish.

So if I want to put a $10 gene on a horse that I am gmting and have put lost of work into, I have to pick a random horse in their barn that they hopefully aren’t going to use to add the $10 to and the add $10 onto the one I want, so $20 total to add a $10 gene. Or get lucky that who I am giving the horse to is on that day, then find a person to transfer the horse to them, and hope I still have time to add the gene. Just a lot of work on my part, or pay double. Just takes the fun out of it is all.

I’m excited about the event being automated now and love everything you’ve done recently. ^_^ I was just hoping for an easier way but like I said it’s probably too hard to implement.

You just give them the horse first and add it after. You never have to spend double.

Just want to clarify; when we fill out the entries do we have to include things like our username, ID, owned gene liscenses, etc? Or is that information automatically recorded since the system is now automated?

Is there also a new/easier way to give anonymous gifts? It can get a bit complicated trying to arrange sending gifts through other players and buddy chats. No big deal if there's not, just wondering!

Is a new player able to participate in the gift exchange? Is there a minimum resource limit as long as you can do 25K Hb worth of gifts?
