Unsnipping a horse you bought snipped? - SOLVED
  • I thought only the person who snipped the horse could unsnip it but I just sold a snipped mare exceedingly cheap (because she was snipped) and the new owner unsnipped her?

Did I just have the wrong recollection of how this works or did things change recently? I need to know because if anyone can unsnip a snipped horse they buy, I will just cull and sell them straight back to the game from now on.

  • I was under the same impression?
  • I thought the same, that only the breeder could unsnip a horse. If this is no longer true it will be changing how I handle my gelds as well.
  • I definitely snipped her yesterday even hit the confirm geld/spay warning prompt and all that jazz and it showed her as a spayed mare when I listed her on Public Sales, she sold this morning and I clicked on her page (cause I'm always curious to see who buys my pixel ponies) and suddenly it shows her as a regular unsnipped mare.

To be clear I'm just trying to figure out how she went from spayed mare yesterday to regular mare today when I did not unspeld her and she definitely got spelded yesterday so my assumption is the new owner had to have unspelded her but that shouldn't be possible.....

Oooh wait maybe her original breeder bought her back, I thought she was from one my alt accounts I absorbed but it could be that I had previously bought her from someone else and that would make more sense as to why and how she's now unspelded. *facepalms*

Sorry if this post ended up causing drama.

  • I'm happy you figured it out!

Yup. Only the original breeder can unsnip or clone a horse. :)
  • Thanks guys! I could have sworn she was bred by my alt account that I absorbed hence my confusion at her being unsnipped but she wasn't and the original breeder is the one who bought her back so everything is all good and snippage rules have not changed!

  • Correction and it's my own fault because I did not know this but I'm putting it out here in case someone else doesn't know this.

The mare was bred by my alt account. I absorbed the alt account so the breeder was removed. I did not know that I could then reregister the breeder as my main account or that if I sold the horse the new owner could then register themselves as the breeder (say what?) so when the snipped mare got sold the new owner was able to register themselves as the breeder and unsnip her.

I'm actually back to being pretty upset about this now that I know it was a work around that allowed this to happen but in the future I will make sure it doesn't happen again.

  • You could have reregistered the horse yourself. It is explicitly like that so you could unsnip or clone your own horse that you bred on a merged account. It wasn't a workaround you just did not claim yourself as the breeder of that horse.

If a breeder's account is deleted the horse no longer has a breeder so a new person can claim it. It has been this way for probably 12 years in the game. Deleted accounts no longer have breeder rights since they are deleted.

In all these years this is honestly the first time it has ever been an issue.

  • I’m curious as to why someone unsnipping a horse is a problem? Bare with me if this obnoxious but I’m new. However your horse didn’t fit your bill but it did fit the new owners bill so isn’t that okay that your pixel pony will be used more by someone who can make use of her?

  • @HiddenGenetics Most times this isn’t even an issue, because the horse has the “breeder” section filled in.
Say you bought a snipped horse from me in auction, not realizing she was snipped. You would not be able to unsnip that horse, because I am still listed as the breeder. And most times when a horse is snipped, especially mares, they are not really up to breeding par.

The game does not allow players to purchase snipped horses with the breeder filled in and then unsnip them, because there was a reason the horse was snipped. And it can become a problem because if I snip a horse, it’s for a reason, and I don’t want that snipped horse being bought and then unsnipped and used for breeding. Maybe it’s from a closed line that is not available to the public, or it’s a horse that tested inferior to my standards. It’s my right as a player to make decisions for my horses, just as it’s your right as a player to make decisions for your horses.

  • Ammit I just didn't know you could reregister it I thought once you merged the horse just no longer had a breeder and what is done was done, can't unsnip, can't clone etc.

If I had known (which is why I say this is completely my own fault for not knowing but I literally had no clue reregistering was a thing till today, I thought I'd read through the FAQs and all the pages but clearly I missed something) this would have never come up in the first place because I would have reregistered the horse and she would have stayed snipped instead of my being confused because suddenly a horse I snipped and sold is now unsnipped. To me, it is a work around (though I understand why and how its in place and that its intended to be beneficial) for someone who did not breed the horse or own the alt account that it was merged from to then be able to claim the horse that way. Now that I know that they can do that if it isn't reregistered (and that reregistering is even a thing) I'll make sure I reregister all my merged account horses.

I added about it in case there are other people who didn't know about the reregistering thing like me so if they read this post they could now learn about it.

  • Question from a newbie who doesn't play as much as they should, but, what if the horse is a foundation horse and not a bred one?

Does that make any difference on the matter?
  • @Valhellion, nope. We're talking about horses created or bred by certain players. You're still listed as the horse's breeder if you create a foundation. You kinda still "bred" the horse by creating it.

  • In case anyone else pops in here. I am not mad at the player who bought the horse and unsnipped her at all! I was just very very confused about how the horse got unsnipped and was trying to figure it out if it was a change to rules about snipping or something else, so that if it was something I wanted to avoid in the future I could do so.

  • Thank you all for this thread! I just reregistered a few from my merged alt that I thought I'd never be able to clone. :x

  • Honestly if you (anyone) are that worried about what happens to a horse once you sell it, then don't sell it. Either keep or yum.
  • In case anyone is wondering it is just a button on the horse's control panel to reregister.

  • I did not know you could unspeld a reregistered horse. That's very interesting. I did know you could reregister horses sold without a breeder as your own, but I would have never dreamed people got upset over it! That's great to know, moving forward.(I was not the buyer the post is about, just adding my opinion) I had always assumed if a horse was sold publicly with no breeder the original
breeder/owner didn't care about it at that point.
