The two primary genes that influence how dark a chestnut is are Sooty and Dense Pheomelanin (DP).

To make a chestnut into a liver chestnut, you need three copies of the darkening genes. Any of the following combinations would work:
• Sty DP DP
• Sty Sty DP

If you want to make them the darkest shade of liver (sometimes called black liver), you'll need four copies. For this, you would need:
• Sty Sty DP DP

Neither of your foals look like they have sty but the first is darker, which hints that she might already have DP (the more expensive of the genes) so she'll be the easier to turn into a liver.

Adding two Sty should make her liver
Adding two Sty and one DP will make her black liver
