Devastating SBA lol
-
I bred 29 foals one of my pastures, then moved them to my primary barn for testing. ONLY THREE PASSED SBA :-O =((
I mean, I know that's a risk, but that seems EXCESSIVE. lol

Sounds like you’ve got a big range of quality between your stallion and your mares. The bigger the expanse in breeding quality between the parents of the foal, the less likelihood the foal can be as good as it’s better parent and therefore pass testing.Thanked by 1Summervine

@Cheers Yep! I forgot that the stud was a whole grade better - mystery solved! Also, the ones that did pass are good quality! LOL

Hoo boy...I think we’ve all made that mistake :-)) on the plus side, at least the foals that did manage to pass will be extra great lolThanked by 1Summervine

I haven't gotten very good foals from my pastures lately either. I've probably had more luck in the lab lol! The pasture bonus hasn't been giving me any better foals, usually I get a lot more! Ah wellThanked by 1Summervine

My problem is the colt fairy and the SBA fairy are conspiring. I will get roughly even # of colts and fillies from a pasture, but once I SBA them 75% of the colts pass and 25% of the fillies do.....thankfully it’s not as expensive as it used to be to change gender, but man it’s an expensive way to build a herd!Thanked by 1Summervine

@ Cheers I've noticed that too! My fillies pass WAY less than my colts. I'm glad I listened to all the advice when I was starting to build a giant show herd, because I could not afford all the gender switching I do otherwise! lol

I'm having the same trouble but since I'm only on Gen2 they are at least mostly passingIAM WolfDen #50695Thanked by 1Summervine

@WolfDen Yeah, I only use SBA on 2nd gen foals, and then after that it's on BA, unless I really need to weed out a huge crop.
