How many lines does everyone have?
  • I've been considering starting a third line. I work on breeding the tallest and heaviest drafts and recently started a bootstrap line. However I love riding horses and ponies and am considering starting a line with them also. Idk what to focus on with them... but I love them lol.
    Breeder of the tallest drafts
  • I was up to 9, cut it down to 5, and now am back up to 6.
  • I have 7 lines, 8 if you count my bootstraps!

The overarching theme for all of them is the heaviest bone I can get but each line does have its own thing as well.

Valentine Chocolates is black based chocolates with satin, KP2, and lace
Wildlife is Onyx with DP, Tiger Eye, and sooty+. I originally had all the 3 color bases in there but am culling to just liver reds now
Wacky Wednesday Unicorns are my nacre, thunderstruck, warp, and various ices

    and so on.

Maybe because you are going tall and heavy with the drafts, you could go short and light with the riding ponies!

~~Always buying expro/exceptional draft mares with 2 copies of sooty and 3+bone~~

  • Too many lol. I have 3 bootstrap lines. Open fantasy, DP, and my higher end blingy boots. Then with my even bred I have 4 phantom genes that I'll be combining eventually, KP, snowflake, and watercolor that'll in some form be combined soon with the phantom. And I think that's it...maybe...for now. Size doesn't matter in any of them to me, but I do try to keep everything growing taller lol, and my even KP line is really new so I'm trying to keep them draft bone.
  • Too many! I used to have 15 but I have cut back to 9, 10 if you count bootstrap. Having that many lines may not work for most barns but since I am a big player with lots of barns and a big daily bonus I can keep them up. Plus I don't have hundreds of mare's per stallion. I have between 15-40 mares for each line per generation so I get around 5 intact/keepable foals per line/gen each season.

    1. Chinchilla- preferably silver black or champagne. I am slowly introducing ice and onyx as well.
    2. Ice 13- hom sooty, introducing nexus
    3. Livers and chocolate palomino- preferably hom DP with any fun white spotting gene.
    4. Ice 14- hom sooty with silver and some appaloosa
    5. Macciato- hom sooty, satin and white spotting are a big plus
    6. Watercolor/plaid/ice 10/ice 6- kind of a catch all for any fantasy genes that looks good with watercolor, sooty plus if I can get it too
    7. Snowflake KP- striving for hom snowflake and hom KP with satin and sooty plus
    8. Wild bay- DP, sooty plus, and sabino
    9. White 8/m- I love the combo of these two genes plus pearl and sooty plus
    10. Bootstrap- I just recently stated so it's in its natural y stage but I'm leaning toward anything with satin.
  • I am trying to cut down on and convince as much as possible. Right not I have a mode podge lined line from dumping a half dozen or so lines on mares into one pasture... And then I have my bootstraps. I am trying to get ice 9 and tiger eye into my bootstraps though, which means a third intermediate line soon...
All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.
  • I have 5, technically. My bootstrap, liver, Exceptionally Perfect, and ND1 lines are all very active. I breed for heavy and tall in them, so there are a lot of cull factors (all but bootstrap must pass SBA/must be above 3.0 bone, must be above 16.5hh, and my bootstraps have to be star* or gold* with a PT if 12.2+). It’s slow going, but very rewarding. Once I have achieved a consistent liver line (very large, very dark) I plan to merge it with my ND1 line.

I also have my goofy pasture, where I really just breed for leopard appaloosas and speld them all for my show barns. I love the spots, but don’t want to designate too much space to them, so it’s a 30ac pasture (I aim for a 1:7 breeder:show ratio, so keeping my breeding numbers down is necessary).
  • ... Umm I just realized I might need help. Y'all just made me count my foundation studs and I'm at 19. :O Though someone of them aren't really their own line. They combine or contribute as a group to 2 or 3 lines each- DP Bay Splash Tobiano Appaloosa, Liver Tobiano Appaloosa, Black Satin Liver, Chinchilla, and Snowflake Appie. There are still 8 fantasy boys that really are their own line though...
  • I have a few that I just piddle around with, no serious pastures or anything. I just kinda breed them when I feel like it, which is why those lines are mostly only up to a third generation right now.

I have 6 main lines that I actively breed every season and each one has at least one pasture. I am getting stricter with my criteria for each line, but right now I'm still sorting mares--so I end up with quite a few foals.

  • I've never decided if I should say I have one line (all black liver) or several (black liver with W10, black liver with W3, black liver with S+ AND W10, black liver with KitM, W3, KP and Rabicano... Etc.). I think the best decision would be to say I have 'layered liver lines!

  • 7 even bred lines, one bootstrap line and I’m splitting one even line to make a chocolate line so it will be 8 even bred soon. I split my breeding by generations in general so I’m not overwhelmed with foals each season. Main goal is to stay under 2k mares in pasture.
  • I have a total of four, two lines per account.
This account has a small nexus line less than 30 mares total 2g-4g. It’s mostly my “fun” line I just breed it when I want too.

My Diamond line which is black based, Kitm, KP, Chinchilla, SplashM, and other pattern genes. This is my favorite line by far. I just got up to 5g with this line.

My account on the other server has
A nexus bootstrap line, focusing on adding KitM to the line right now, and get higher PT. I don’t do too much with it and forget about it quite often.

Blingy Bays. Which are bay/brown, S+, satin, Kitm, DP and anything else flashy. It’s my other fun line.

All my lines focus on tall, warmblood, although drafts are allowed. I have tried to set my lines up in such a way that I can add any new genes I like to it, without having to make a new line for them. Personally I couldn’t handle any new lines, I just don’t have the time for it.

  • I have 3 lines that I save stock for, and way more breeders than I need.

First is my main. Heavy with a or At. I use all my foundation studs with this group, and find joy in seeing what I get at gen 3 and higher. I have up to gen 6 but no stars yet, so I'm culling for quality at gen 3 now.

Second is my Cherry Drop Dreams. Wild bay heavies with at least one darkening gene. My phantom genes are having fun with all the frame over here. These girls almost never see pasture.

Last is my bootstrap. Any genes and any size. Red gen 2 that fail my first two lines end up here, and must throw blue or better to be kept. I have a favorite stud, but I like using straws on these girls before pastures open.

I really should break down my main line further, but I love just shoving keepers in pasture.

  • I have 3 lines really. I have one completely closed exclusive line where I breed very carefully and have very tight standards for. This is a grullo splash m kit m appy line. I keep a 30 mare pasture for the 1st gen and have just started a 10 mare pasture for 2nd gen. I'll probably look at a 3rd gen one in a few months.
I then have my bootstraping line. This is sort of what I use to absorb the ones that I come across that don't fit my main line or are too pretty or just unevenly bred. There are a few things I cull by, line passing ba, at least blue, at least 11pt and a few Gene's I steer clear of. This isn't a particularly strong line, with a 100 mare pasture. It produces my monthly intake of show ponies, a few new breeders to tide itself over and a few prettiest.
Finally I have my main line. This is a true mishmash of everything I have. I try to keep it with no fantasy Gene's and i have been steering the acceptance towards having liber/kp/snowflake recently. I have pastures for each generation. I have just opened a 6g pasture, but only got 4 in there for next season.
My game management wasn't great until the last 6 months or so. I've only recently really got my horses somewhat square. I have some basic standards that absolutely all of my lines mares must pass such as over 10pt, at least red and culling by a few no-go Gene's such as w, w2, grey, Frame and tobiano. I also only keep anything with at least 2.5 bone and am hoping to be able to raise this standard once culling by the others doesn't work anymore. I have got some new fantasy Gene's on a few stallions but it's hard to cross fantasy with kp/snf so I'm thinking about integrating them with my bootstrap hard eventually.
I also keep a few stallions from each pasture usually and then have a proper 'deep clean'od my boys once I end up with over 100 in the barn.

  • I like Confluence's comment above, I have layered lines! They all overlap to some degree! The most separate would probably be mushroom, they look best without all the fantasy genes so prevalent in my other horses but even mushrooms get mixed up with the other at times. Chinchilla is a bit separate, but it does look great with watercolour and the ice genes so I can mix it in a lot more. I have a bit of everything but the watercolour/ice lines seems to have been my fave for a while now, mostly bay/brown/DP based, but it mixes in with a lot of everything else! I breed for cobs in everything, so that parts easy. Kp, DP and silver are in just about everything. The only other kind of separate lines, are those of era. This is less about the LB, as with so many fantasy genes they aren't often in era LB's anyway, but more to keep track of new lines and colours with the kaleidoscope that is my herd!!
  • I have all of the fantasy genes plus I love livers and black livers. Also satin and snowflake are mixed in there somewhere, too. They all get combined into a wonderful mish mash :)
  • Too many to even count. =))

  • Oh wow thank you so much everyone! I narrowed down some of my bootstrap girls and opened up on pasture and bought a second one. I have so many pastures for my drafts lol so I think I will start on for even generation riding ponies. My question since I haven't bred the tinies much, I know they get as small as 12 hands, but what is the smallest a foundation riding pony can be? Bone and height?
    Breeder of the tallest drafts
  • Foundations can be 13.2hh at their smallest
  • I'm glad to see I'm not only nut with to many lines. I got 11 lines. Only two that are pastures. Most my lines are hand breed. I have line form foundations to g7 in same line.
Like my appy line. I just started cutting w20 out of them. Got all of paint genes out and roan. I think after w20 gone I'll cut vanish gene out next. I have about 60 mares in that group.
Then my favorite line is my mix it up fansty line. There I mix things no one else has tired to. I have gotten some really cool combos. As long as they pass basic and carry at least 2 fansty. They go on to breed.
Just started a high pt show pony line. My newest boy Silverman came out to 14.2pt. He is 1 in all his club's last time I look.
My lines seem to change around alot. Only my appy lines been with me since I started. Thanks to new genes rolling out. I find I keep adding new lines. Like now got SPW Lance line....Im sure by July I'll have a few more.
  • I used to have like, 10 different lines that were all over the place but in the past several months, i have managed to narrow it down to 4-5. And i have VERY strict requirements for foals to stay intact. Bear with me, this may get a tad long lol

*My main two lines are Mushroom and Chinchilla

    1.) Mushroom
    - I have three A papered Foundation Mushroom studs and two Blue papered Foundation Mushroom mares. (Unfortunately i am an idiot who put onyx on two of them when i specifically didn't want fantasy genes in my super boosty mushrooms *insertfacpalmhere* So i am gonna work on breeding out all teh fantasy genes down the line)

    2.) Chinchilla
    - I have two A papered foundation Chinchilla stallions and one Blue papered foundation Chinchilla mare. I also have one B papered foundation Chinchilla stallion that get his own chinchilla line separate from the A papered.
    - The A papered Stallions:

    3.) Studio Ponoc (Coming Soon!)
    - Studio Ponoc is the name of Studio Ghibli's replacement. He will have his own line in my barns as well as be shared among all the players who wish to use him. The main focus of his line will be the nexus. All 3G+ must be hom for nexus to stay intact.
    - Here he is so far! I just need the RGS to cooperate with me
    image
    GMT Ghibli Replacement

    4.) Show Ponies/Bootstrap
    - My bootstrap/show pony line is one big line broken into categories/mini lines. So my axioms are divided into mini lines based on the Hogwarts houses as well as in a large mixed pasture for those that don't fit the requirements of the house pastures. I also have an Ice 10/Wrong Warp/Thunderstruck bootstrap pasture, a Nexus one, and just a plain Highest PT pasture.

**I do have two C papered studs that i just couldn't bear to sell that i use for mini lines as well. However the A papered foundation lines take 1st priority.

Here are my requirements for foals:
    1. Must pass SBA, even lab babies
    2. Paper Levels;
    Foundation - B/A/Red/Blue
    Second Gen - A/Blue
    Third Gen - A/Star(rare)Blue/Gold(rare)
    Fourth Gen and up- Star/Gold
    3. ALL colts MUST test Superior to Sire; ALL fillies MUST test Superior to Dam
    4. Must test Consistent
    5. AFPT Score for mares (after 3 foals) and stallions (after 10 foals) (this might be adjusted to be a bit more strict if needed since i am using super boosted stock)
    - F 9.9
    - 2G 10.3
    - 3G 10.7
    - 4G 11.1
    - 5G 11.6
    - 6G and up 12 or higher
    6. 3G+ MUST be Homozygous (for either Mushroom, Chinchilla, or Nexus, depending on the line)

**I am still working on fine tuning my new lines and way of culling/processing foals but i am hoping this will give me the best possible quality horses :)

  • Normally I have two separate lines - my wild bay line and my Chinchilla line. I like to add similar bling to both lines - satin, sooty+, KP, roan, dun, and nd1, but the main thing is I don't like silver in my wild bays and I try to minimize wild bay with the chinchillas because it whites out the coat.

But, because I don't have a ton of time to be on right now and mess about with rotating pastures and things, I have both lines thrown together in my 5-6 pastures right now and I just let the chips fall where they may and cull the color combos I'm not crazy about. I only have one gen per pasture (normally I store mares in pastures to get the full bonus and rotate groups out to have more control over breeding). I'd gotten up to gen 7, but right now I'm only breeding gens 1-4 and focusing on getting a really strong base for when I have more time and return to breeding my upper gens.

I do have a bootstrap line (snowflake/nexus) but it's on an alt account. I would love to merge accounts but I like the simplicity and ease of just having accounts separate.
