Gene Testing Improvements and Smart Fantasy Flagging
-
I rolled out new genetic testing today that should greatly improve your experience with gene testing. Test results are now broken out into 3 categories. Pigment, White Marking and Additional Info. The wild/normal type of most genes is now hidden to clarify the test results. Homozygousnormal type genes are now hidden from view but can be seen using "show all checkbox." Breaking it out like this allows us to have the name of each gene also shown to reduce confusion.
Other features include a mouseover tooltip with more info about the gene. Links to the genetic guide, fantasy, licenses, and sales limitations are now dynamically labeled via the database preventing any gene from ever being shown improperly.
I have also added smart fantasy flagging. Horses will have their fantasy flag updated every time their page is loaded meaning the fantasy flag info can no longer be out of date/incorrect.Need to contact me? Read this first. Thank you for the hard work and many hours you put into all of these enhancements, Ammit! These improvements are very appreciated.
It will take my brain a few days to adjust to the new format, but the scientist in me is already very excited for the additional information we can now easily access from each horse's page.Looking for Appaloosas? Check out my Riata account.
You matter to me!
You are valued, you are important, and you are loved! ❤️Thanked by 1Ammit -
The changes are so interesting! I bet having “inactive” genes hidden will help people learn what the genes are and how they affect pigment. Thanks for all the work you do!

This is fantastic! I have basically been breeding somewhat randomly, but with this I think it will be easier for those of us who are playing the game for the sheer fun of it and now can really learn genetics. I'm really liking the new testing, it'll be much easier for folks to read and understand, but it's giving the full results even on horses that have not yet had any testing done. Is it supposed to do that or is it a bug?~*~ Justa ~*~

Has Appaloosa blanket size (PATN1) become a hidden gene? I have at least one hom Llp foal with no PATN1 signifier in their genetic testing results. It’s a foal with a small blanket, so I suspect the foal is +/+ but I would have thought it would still show up.
-
@Cheers it looks like + reads as - on the tests...so it either shows PATN1 or -, vs EAC3P+, if that makes sense? A hom EAC3P+ horse shows up as -/-
-
I'm actually really confused by this layout, and I find myself hand writing the old-style genetic coding in the horse notes area.
But, maybe it will grow on me.

@BellaVoce that’s helpful except nothing at all for appy blanket size shows up on this foal. I will go through some more before I make a bug report. Doesn’t show up when I click “show all” either.
-
@Cheers, this boy is ECA3P +/+ and it shows Appaloosa Blanket Size: -/- https://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=5659761
this girl is het for PATN1 and it is showing correctly Appaloosa Blanket Size: PATN1/- https://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3017020
So I think that +/+ is just represented as -/- in the new layoutFolly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free. -
Yeah I can find it on other foals, just on one the Blanket Size and all of the other hidden information doesn’t come up at all. Probably need to log out and back in or clear my cache. Clearly working on other foals in the batch I’m working with!
-
Neither your cache or session data have anything to do with gene testing so neither of those things would help. Cheers, if you have a question about a specific horse please post the horse. Thanks.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

Hey Ammit, this filly shows no change when I click “show all” and therefore doesn’t show the appy blanket size. The others I’ve checked in this batch show all relevant info when I click “show all”.

I think the confusing part is that we're used to seeing the plus for blanket size. If I'm understanding this correctly, the + is normal and won't show up on testing, PATN1 is a modifier and shows on testing. If the foal has no modifiers, the testing shows as -/-, if it has modifiers it shows as -/PATN1, PATN1/-, or PATN1/PATN1.
-
I wasn't sure at first but after using it a bit yesterday to name foals as I normally do, I have found that it is MUCH simpler to read. I love it so far. Makes my naming process much less prone to mistakes.ID: 16853

I have this horse that shows for blanket size despite not having an appaloosa allele. Slightly different problem but slightly related?:
0ExP5736447 DP -
It just means he carries it, but it's not expressed. Sort of like a bay gene can be carried by a chestnut, but not activated till an extension(E) gene is added.
-
But, we shouldn’t be able to see that unless he is an Appaloosa? At least that’s how the old genes displayed...
-
All genes display now, the new set up allows for that. Horses without LP can still carry PATN1Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

Will they also display DP or snowflake? Any of the hidden genes?
-
Ooh I love that it shows PATN1 even if there is no Appaloosa because I try to keep the blanket size down for further generations! Now I get to cull some of my pastures!ID# 45123
