Confused about showing stats...
-
I have long wondered about this and would love if someone could shed some light on this for me! Here are two mares, both 17 years old, both competing in "World" level, both are second generation and evenly-bred. They are intact as they are breeding stock based on genes.
The first mare is 10.10 Consistent, and has 1400 wins and 324 lifetime points.
3 blk lvr 2694401
The second mare is 9.9 Inconsistent, has 3395 wins, and 812 lifetime points.

If I had culled them as yearlings based on their PT numbers and consistency, I would have not done well by keeping the first mare and culling the second.
I am confused by this immensely.BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

Based on just a quick glance, I'm going to say they major difference is that they were not shown the same. There are several breaks in the showing record of the first mare where she was not show for a few months at a time. Those breaks don't appear as large or as often in the second one. So, more showing = more earns & points.#28036

Just looking at 2019, the first mare was shown in Jan, Feb, May, Oct, Nov & Dec.
The second mare was shown in Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, 1/2 Jul, Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec. Approximately twice as many shows.#28036 -
Also an Inconsistent horse doesn't necessarily show badly...just unevenly. They could show very well for a few shows and then badly for a few. They're the ones that make showing interesting. ;)

@Haltanny thanks! That solves the mystery for me. I may have had her in pastures more often or my auto showing settings for that barn may have been off.BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

Higher PT scores do not mean better shower they indicate how long a horse will train for (and how much they will improve their score per training session)
Higher PT horses will train longer giving the more of a chance to reach the bigger shows before they level off but they also move up through the lower shows quicker and may not hit a winning spot before moving up so they can take a while to build points but in the bigger shows they will earn more points per show and make up for it.
Lower pt horses level off quicker and don’t increase their show placing points as quickly so they take longer to move out of each level and give them more chances at placing better before leveling up tp the next show level. So they will earn their points as they move up the ranks.Breeding even generation Grullos with Ice -
That explains a lot. Thank you. I have also wondered about the use of the PT scores.IAM WolfDen #50695
